I am freshly new to the gameboy modding scene, installed only a q5 ips kit in, (first time ever soldering anything) this mod seems so great but maybe a little out of my comfort level, maybe if I had a desoldering tool, the plunger type, I would attempt. Nonetheless, this video was so incredibly awesome, your knowledge on not only the mods but how the circuitry works is incredibly informative and educational. I really appreciate this!

I would not recommend doing this or similar mods as a newbie to soldering. I highly recommend getting comfortable first and a good way to do that is with solder practice kits.

Passing thought, thanks to the freed up space on the front of the shell, you could theoretically make the GBC Stereo without headphones. No idea why you'd want to do that due to the proximity of the speakers to each other... but.. you could.

Nice video. I believe that you don't need an overdischarge protection system as most of the lipo batteries they have a protection circuit where the two leads connect to the battery body. Having it on the board would be duplicating the system.
@makho Жыл бұрын
So long as you use a battery that has over discharge protection, yes it would be duplicated. Not all batteries do. It won't hurt anything in this case.

Great video! But when you line up the charging board to the gameboy color board one of the fuses is in the way. From the video i did not see you remove that specific one and it does not fit when i tried to put it over it. Please advise and thank you for your time!
@makho Жыл бұрын
Newer variant requires removing the fuse too. There should also be a PDF linked on the sales listings for these and those will be more current than my video.

This was super helpful and I successfully followed along with your video and got this working perfectly last night! However, the charging indicator light isn't turning on when I plug it in now... If I power up the GBC, the white light works fine beside the screen, but the charging indicator beside the USB-C port is super faint. If I turn it off, paired charging indicator beside the screen is also super faint and neither will turn on if I disconnect and then reconnect the power cable. Do you have any idea what I might have frigged up?

Shame that there's no play and charge.... That would really make it a one-stop-mod for modernizing the GBC's power system. The included amp is nice as well as I've found GBC's to be quite quiet at stock. Edit: The charge/power LED replacement is a very nice touch, well done! Edit 2: Also a nice quality-of-life addition to the kit would be a stencil or jig for cutting the USB-C hole Edit 3: Would also like to hear back if there is a low-power indicator with this mod, missing that is definitely a common pitful/annoyance that comes along with a typical lipo mod.
@giltesa2 жыл бұрын
I definitely need to add the safe charge-and-play feature. I will try to make space on the board and add it. Edit2: There is a tool here: github.com/giltesa/Game-Boy-Color-USB-C-Charging-Kit-Pro/tree/master/3.%20Documentation/Cutting%20Tool Edit3: The while led loss the brightness as the original led when the charge of the batteries is decreasing. You can see it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/foq4kmemZ9B6rLc However, the light doesn't blink as someone advised me to add. Maybe that can be added with this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5uoqJ2MraeFgMk

@@giltesa Thank you for the reply I look forward to any developments with this kit! And to be clear I think you've done a great job with this one. As far as the low-battery indicator, blinking would work okay but I would love to see it switch to a different color similar to how the GBA/SP behaves. Something like: Orange = charging Blue/white = charged Green = power on Red = low power Or something like that.

I'm a little sad Retro Gaming Repair Shop is not including a battery with the board, but at least they stock a compatible battery and replacement speaker and capacitors. I'm tempted to install this in my modded GBC but I don't have the cash right now and I'm hopefully getting my Analogue Pocket by Christmas. BTW, what brand is that USB-C cable with power meter? It's not listed on the info site. Same for the vices
@nyquilforthekill16202 жыл бұрын
As a business standpoint I can understand they want more money. So they're not tryin to bundle everything plus batteries for kits are mostly universal. So other power accessories for other mods require the same lipo more or less. Their lipo can be bought separately for any project really.
@Tron082 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I think there are shipping restrictions around LIPO batteries so I suspect it's just easiest to ship without
@makho2 жыл бұрын
@@nyquilforthekill1620 It's more that Gil Tesa doesn't provide a battery with the kits and packing one in would drive the price up. Maintaining two SKUs is more difficult than one so there would likely be only the one SKU and then that would drive customers to other shops if they already had a battery to use. It's not as much a value add if the "bundle" ends up being the same price.

Thanks. I’m still having an issue with my speaker. I installed the USBC mod, new capacitors and new speaker but still no sound. If I let the GBC sit for a day the sound comes on but 5 seconds later it fades from very loud down to silent. I tried cleaning it but I’m not sure what else to do. I can see the metal arm inside the headphone jack is in full contact as well. Any advice? (Also I’m super new at modding)
