Good technical work here. Another way, of several, is to make a carbon fiber block then CNC machine it to the lever shape. Comes out cleaner than doing it with a mold.

Thank you 😊 yes it is another way to make it 🤌🏻

Great work, using the flatbed scanner as a way to get an outline in CAD was genius. I always wanted to try making levers in CF to go with some of my other homemade CF parts but all the compound curves made them hell to try and model freehand.

you can use 3d scanner or some mobile apps can scan pretty good too

Hey man, would love to know how you designed the compression mould, a guide or tutorial would be amazing. Great work man keep it up

i think that youtube have a better teachers than me 😁 but if i can help you... for the first time try smal and simple shape make 3d model of the part using cavity feature (search on youtube) you can simple make a mould for any part you modeled then just print it but that one part of mould going inside print on 99% to avoid that it wil not fit in i failed many times with doing it just keep going until you refine it

Great work! Should have clearcoated it just for some eye-candy :D
@peteelab Жыл бұрын
thank you... yeah i used a matte clearcoat so the carbon is not visible too good 😁

Great video! I have also tested with fiberglass and polyester resin, but it is difficult to release even with PVA releaseagent. What wax do you use for a smooth release in your videos?

THanks ;)

1:58 first it is waxed with wax from a candle and then polished 2:13 next i applied coat of cavity wax spray for car rust 4:37 I had a problem that the composite was tight in shape with a mould and didn't want to come out so splitting the mould into multiple pieces would be best solution

@@peteelab thank you. Is it important to smooth the mold by rubbing it with sandpaper? Is the rough surface of the 3D printer mold bad for release?
@peteelab Жыл бұрын
@user-kw6ps9jc1h yes i think its better to sand mold first than sand a composite later, as well you will get a fine surface on composite and probably better release too:)

Hi I'm planning to do the same for my street motorcycle, did you use a bushing for the pivot point of the lever?
@peteelab6 ай бұрын
Hii.. no, there is just the hole in lever. I tested it and after 50+ hours of riding there is same hole, if you use grease it will lead to minimum abrasion of composite in the inner diameter of the hole.

@@peteelab Thx a lot for the answer, since I can have access to a lathe I might try to make my own, but good to know they can survive without :)
@peteelab6 ай бұрын
@SwainixFPV my pleasure to help you ✌🏻 why lathe? Buy a pipe with needed inner diameter or drill it. Design the mold that you can place pipe into mold and it will stick together with lever after hardening
@SwainixFPV6 ай бұрын
@@peteelab I printed and placed a pin in the mold as placeholder but I was initially planning on buying bicycle brakes bushings so I didn't go the pipe route. The workshop has some steel and teflon cylinders so I'll just see whatever seems best (I'm currently waiting for the mold to cure but if I redo it I would mold a cylinder of steel in it directly like you advised)

yes I would make it the same way, let us know how it’s going 🙂
