That's 70k with 1500 hours of overtime. that's 68 hour weeks, every week. Not a good deal. I'd be making 121k a year if I worked that much... and I definitely feel like I'm not paid enough, he certainly isn't.

4:15 "...1,500 hours of overtime a year", on top of the nearly 1,900+ hours regular employees work, in the US (5days a week 8 hour a days) suddenly that 70,000 a year seems far less impressive. Though glad he seems to enjoy it.

@Ryan Kenaley There is no such thing as "Low skilled/unskilled" labour. Any person exchanging their time for labour should be compensated a livable wage by their employer, that being said though I concur that $20 an hour is fair in the state of Kentucky. Though his hours are unreasonable.

I wish he talked more about why he left the wastewater treatment center. My dad used to be a treatment plant operator, left to start an aquarium business, business went under, and then went back to wastewater treatment now as a mechanic. He said he wishes he never left. The pension and benefits would've been a lot better. I work for the department of water and power and am complacent about it. I generally like what I do, at least compared to any other realistic job. I get paid really well for the little amount of work that I do but I definitely want to retire early and explore other intersests

Airless paint sprayer with fine tip so you dont get much over spray. It would be life changing for you but your productivity would go up so much you would do yourself out of work I suppose. The finish would be flawless with no brush marks as well.

Well these trades never really left to be honest. There have been many long-operating expansive amusement and theme parks worldwide that require maintenance and upkeep so there was always the need. The only difference is in perception as more people get curious about things they wouldn't have usually known otherwise in highly specialized industries. And that curiosity combined with the ease of internet searching has trusted a lot of once-behind-the-curtain-professions into the public light (Most notably are Disney "Imagineers" as they are so called have become pseudo celebrities in theme park circles, like Tony Baxter or Joe Rhodey for example)

I work for an ex partner of Baynum, Million Painting. We don't do Rollercoasters only, most of the work is contract work on rides for amusement parks but it's amazing seeing it all come together!

Locomotive engineer. Good jobs are out there. I make $150k working 5 days a week with full retirement. Have some college but people I work with a majority do not. Heck we even have a marine biologist that works with us.

I always knew these guys got paid well. Makes sense. I worked for Cedar Point awful summer job would not recommend it, but this isn't that bad as long as you get paid fair and you don't have to deal with the day to day of an amusement park you're doing good.

This job does not pay enough. A good chunk of that $75k is overtime pay. He works 15 hours a day. It is physically demanding. It’s hazardous work. His base is closer to $47k. These companies wonder why people are quitting. They are greedy and should be ashamed.

@@airgunningyup $16 an hour is absolutely thriving in KY, where most places only pay $10. 15 hour days aren't even that bad. 47k in KY is doing well, and 75k in KY is living high on the Hog. Ask me how I know.

@@camd4648 Your standards have to be low to think 15 hour days isnt bad. In other states the cost of living might be a little higher, but you can get paid way higher for your work. I just quit my job as a cashier at a gas station in a suburb in Minnesota and I was making 15 per hour full time. We also have grandmas working here making the same amount.

@@mister0sir Yeah, I'm not arguing that 15 hour days aren't sucky, but they're more than doable, and aren't hard at all. 15 hour days at $15 an hour is middle class, and lands you close to 50k a year, which doesn't even include weekends. I can't say much, I enjoy working, because I'm a Diesel Mechanic. I enjoy it so much, I get off work, and offer my services to people, and make even more money as a result. When it's too hot, or too cold, I wash windows, which is about $80 an hour if you're good.(Which, I am.) Those are my side hustles, and It's all for the same goal. The easiest answer to why 15 hours a day sucked for you, is because you're working an unskilled, non-stimulating job. Do something difficult, and over come that obstacle, then you can truly enjoy your work. Two years ago, I didn't even know how to change my own oil. Now I'm making a living off of it.

People have no idea how much skill trades every year. Electricians, Plumbers, Carpenters, construction managers, Radiation therapists, Aviation technicians and many others pay very well without a college degree. Just a HS education and some time in a trades school or an apprenticeship programme.

Maybe that's a lot of money for someone living in Kentucky, but that's average where I live without working much overtime... He was either fired from the wastewater place or something, because nobody gives that money up for something like this. "Wants to travel and see more" you're not seeing much when you're working 70 hours a week.

So I would agree with you, in that regard his job does sound better. However "good" is still not a word I would use to describe his career.

@@sonderevokingbuns yea true I feel you, but he's probably a single guy no kids no wife so the overtime is good for him, vs with people like you , you value more of your time if you have a family, or maybe you don't even have a family and you just like to relax , or like you said your just getting old and wanna relax idk everybody's different on what they wanna do , and I think his job is pretty good the average salary in the United States for one person is only 56,000 dollars a year so he's making more than average witch puts him in the good range
