You should be that on 1 for the slowest movement to raise an lower...... But if you want a fully working sketch with bell sound I can share with you.....

@@henryfehr6202 upon the sketch for this size of crossing you will have to adjust the movement of the gates up and down and the speed in which is all in my sketch... an for a speaker you'll need a 5w. 8ohm and a BC547 idk how i would send you the diagram to hook it up....an for your set up I would just go with a Arduino pro. Mini that way it will be much smaller to hide.
