Making a Bustier Dress

In this weeks video, I'll be testing a plus size pattern for a bustier dress created by @daria_patternmaking on instagram. It's a black satin dress with a bustier top, slight a-line skirt and tie shoulder straps. To see how the first pattern test went and how the dress came out, watch the latest video!

Thank you. It really is. The creator of the pattern posts what others have created and there hasn’t been a bad one yet. When the pattern is updated, I’m looking to do a golden yellow sundress and an ivory leather corset. 😎

You did well making this, and I agree with some of your criticism points. It would be cute taken in to fit tighter for a night out look. My favorite part of this dress was the sweetheart shape in the bust. This would be a cute pattern for a satin corset too.

Yes, if it fit properly, it would be really nice for a night out look. I’m waiting for the pattern updates to make a corset, but I’m thinking creak leather. 😎

This came out well. I love a nice sweetheart too. They work out for me because I have big bust and it sort of minimizes it. You should finish the dress in a brown color. Neutrals are in right now

You did an amazing job. But I would suggest adding a sturdier lining for more support, AND BONING BONING, BONING!!! Boning is our friend. Great Job!

Thank you, and yes I agree. I was quickly testing a pattern here. The creator has since updated the pattern for fuller busts and I would definitely add bra padding and boning next time.

Lol sewing isn’t hard if you want to learn. You’ll just have to commit to the time and energy. It’s possible for you though.

Honestly, it's not about patience. It's about willingness to learn. Good idea on the bright color though. I've been considering a pink one lately.

I just made this pattern (mock up) and it came out with ALL the same fit issues you had. Seems like she didnt make any adjustments at all 😢

Sorry for the late response and sorry it didn’t come out right. According to her, she’s updated it and has sent me updated patterns and instructions but I haven’t done it again. I think I plan to in the summer so hopefully it was corrected.

@delayabriscoe well best of luck! I scrapped it and went with the Lilypa Kanon Bustier dress, she designs full figure bras so it’s sized appropriately and really great instructions as well!

yea, just googled that pattern and you can easily tell they're more experienced w/ fuller busts. How did the dress turn out for you?
