My thought - nice ad but it lacks photorealism. Looks a little bit like CG. I think you exceeded cycles capabilities. Maybe you have to try Octane renderer. Its spectral abilities are just great and make materials look more photorealistic. When I started using it in blender I was very surprised. And all remarks from that guy were just to the point. About bloom, attaches lights etc. btw final shot is great
@KaizenTutorials6 ай бұрын
Thanks! Ive never tried Octane but yeah maybe I should. I agree this looks kinda CG. That’s also a result of time spent, like only 8 hours total.
@luisbarros45876 ай бұрын
@@KaizenTutorials Post work is your friend here, nothing wrong with Cycles, plus doing all these effects in post will give you more creative flexibility. Rendering out some AOVs with emissives, and depth, cryptomattes,etc, you can really transform these renders into a more cinematic and realistic look for sure. if only you had 8.5 hours instead :) Lovely work.
@snailone63586 ай бұрын
1. Great job creating this in the given timeframe. 2. Nah, it’s not because of the render engine. Yes octane is superior in reflections, but that’s not the main reason here. There are a few things that he pointed out himself to be fake. The attached lights to the car for example. Yes to „fake“ a bit of fill light might be a good idea, but this strong side light really destroys that shot in my opinion. Another big one for me are simple surface imperfections in the reflections. This could be due to to strong denoising. Even in a squeaky clean commercial a stainless steel truck has some broken up highlights. Then the lack of bloom and atmosphere are adding to the fake look as well. I think what would be great is having different artist use the project file with the exact same shots and just change settings in lights and textures and render engine and see how it would differ.

I have done multiple CG commercials for Tesla since like 3 years ago, including Model 3, Model S/X, Roadster, Semi Truck, and Cybertruck (btw using Blender). Two things I learned from working for them: 1. Elon Musk doesn't really like CG, and he kinda hates advertising, although they started advertising quite often in recent years 2. Tesla has very limited budget on marketing, and bcoz of No.1, they spend most of their budget on practical shots instead of CG animation 🙂

Insane for the time you have given yourself, but its time to give criticism. You seem to have missed that they want to show it can go far and on a lot of terrain, this is something important from a marketing standpoint. You did instead showed off that is has an electric engine. For a car commercial it feels a bit static, for the intro and outro that is fine, but you want to show the power and strength this car has, so adding some more aggressive action/movement will appeal to the target audience for this vehicle. (If I missed anything someone else will have pointed it out already, keep learning and having fun. Its what you are good at)

Reported issues of them dying after driving only like 15m, rust is apparently a massive issue, they were very late getting the vehicle out, musk tossed a metal ball through the window to show off how strong it was, apparently the self driving is also just a glorified driver assist that other cars have as well just far less safe. @KaizenTutorials6 ай бұрын
Good question! And you're not wrong. Using lights would probably have been better. To be honest I didn't really think it through like that. The biggest pro to using plane lights is being able to see the gradient in the viewport, which makes it easier to grasp and visualize. But you're right that lights are better for optimization and noise reduction and in the future I'll probably just use lights instead! As for the renderin; I have a video on render setups. The settings for this one we're very basic; 4096 samples, 2560x1440 resolution and noise threshold on 0.03.

@@KaizenTutorials On a second watch, the pacing is also off. It seems like some of the scenes stretch on a little long to fill time. If you have an eight hour limit on how much time you can give to the production, maybe a 15-second or 30-second target would work better. If the scenes have to fight each other for screen time, that'd probably be a good forcing function to emphasize the ones that turned out best and cull the ones that ended up less effective than you'd hoped.

If you're looking for some criticism i have some points (dont take them too hard, i know this project was done in few hours) - the model is pretty well made but the materials feel super fake and not realistic at all - i dont know if you have experience with animation in generale but while the general ideas for the different shots were allright the execution is pretty lacking. It felt a bit like you watched a few car ads and copied by memory some shots. - while its on brand, the whole ad is too dark, personally dont like it and all of the car ads i've seen tend to convey a more natural look (running in a forest type of thing) instead of and edgy one

there are many mistakes in the car model itself, for example, Handles on the doors. In real life, they simply do not exist. ))) 2. Also, the model does not have a wiper and rear-view mirrors. there is no additional light under the main headlights. The windshield is not of the correct shape and size, reflections on the glass, and in general the geometry of the car is not correct. We would download all the necessary drawings officially (they are freely available) and model them. Speed and quality are different concepts.

It's not the most up-to-date version of the car no. Because I wanted to save money and time I decided it was fine though. In a professional setting I'd have modeled all of that to match the car 1-to-1 or even better; ask Tesla to provide a correct 3D model
