For quite a long time I wanted to make one of these as I like woodcarving a lot. Finally I had time for it and gave it a go. The log is seasoned oak and the legs from seasoned birch.

When he was cutting into the log, the vertical lines with the chain saw? He could've made the cuts more narrower, from the first cuts. Enabling the Swiss ax, to cut more pieces and finishing quicker!
@dabberty4 ай бұрын
That would have been an option, but he chose from several different options to do it this way.

Excellent, can't wait to make one myself, but I have so many questions. Is there no problem using birch outdoors, rotting faster than other woods?
@dabberty3 жыл бұрын
Hi, honestly I don't know about birch. I just used what I had laying around. If it would have been birch, i would've used that. To help any wood to prolong its life time you could oil it for example. But some good wood that does not decay easily is for example Cedar, Redwood, Acacia, Black Locust and a few more. Just go for it ans good luck

Nice video, thanks. Except for the fun involved in creating such a thing, are there any benefits compared to all the equipment that you already have, if you want to use to carve some wood?
@dabberty4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yes, for me there is an additional benefit. The benchvises have cant open more then 15cm, and for a bowl you want something bigger. And the main reason is that it is mobile. I do most work outside cause of the better light and fresh air. I could also put it on the terras, or take it by car somewhere, just take the legs out and its easy to put it in the car for example. And then as last thing, it looks good :-)

Fantastic! Hard to beat a good cigar and chainsaw! At 8:25, what is the blue tool you used? Looks like some type of jig. With regards from Colorado. Roger
@dabberty4 жыл бұрын
Hi, it's a under hanging vise. If you search on amazon on 'woodworkings vise' you'll see them. Depending on the bench, it does not stick out which is sometimes an advantage. All the best, D.

Well, you could always ask him i guess. Or just go at it with the dimensions you need depending on what kinda projects you intend to make, keeping in mind the height of yourself, and the available tools.

Seasoned?
@dabberty5 жыл бұрын
DIY AtoZ yes, it’s written around 15 seconds into the video. It means it was outside for a couple of years, drying slowly.
@DIYAtoZ5 жыл бұрын
@@dabberty Nice is drying slowly means you didn't place wood in direct sunlight, right?
@DIYAtoZ5 жыл бұрын
@@dabberty can u tell me what's the benefit of seasoned wood?
@dabberty5 жыл бұрын
DIY AtoZ Hi, the benefit is that it wont crack due to drying, it’s quite stable then. This piece was outside under a roof for almost 3 years. No direct sunlight, no rain or snow, but it was exposed to the tempuratures. Better would be inside, but I didn’t have place for it.
