Ace your dad is REALLY awesome.....like for real!! I'd do anything to get my dad to go on fishing trips with me like y'all 2 do. He'll go but it's far in between when he does. He claims to love fishing and I know He does because he's taught me most of everything I know about trout fishing. but He has to have his bud light with him..he can't just enjoy the experience sober. I don't mind him drinking a few. But a whole 12 pack.....thats no fun at all. So I just gave up on asking him to go. We haven't been fishing together in two years almost, i still love him though. He's def missed out on some fun fishing trips and memories with me. He'll straighten up I hope!! Sorry for the somewhat of a vent sesh on your tube comments ACE....LOL but You are awesome and your pops! I enjoy every single one of your videos....literally EVERY one no exaggeration. I'm from Washington and when I was a kid in the 60's my dad would eat panned fried smelt whole (just gutted and de-headed) bones, fins, and all. That and dungeness crab, and razor clams, and prawns, and salmon, etc.. were favorites in our house.

Smelts only run in our waters when its winter. So ice fishing smelts is pretty popular in the winter around here. When cooking Smelts. A lot of people Use a pancake mix as a batter. Batter the fish up with some of the pancake mix and either fry it in a frying pan or you can also deep fry it.

OK. So, Smelt is a huge staple food for Italians (like me!) for Christmas Eve dinner. My family way of doing them (and my absolute favorite way to eat them) is simply flouring them with regular flour and deep frying in vegetable oil. You can salt them when they come out of the oil, and eat em up!! I make them whenever I get the desire for them because they are DELICIOUS!! All the best!!

smelt fishing is my absolute favourite. here in northern Ontario you can only get them for about 2 weeks when the river mouth thaws and the best time to catch is at like 1am. ours are super small so we just gut them and cook them whole. I cook at restaurant and people buy them by the pound
