This week we try to harvest the parts from the used BCM in order to make the original one functional again. After that, we pull out the dash in hopes of finding a resolution to our gauge cluster problem... Hope you enjoy!

Thanks for sharing this, very helpful in pulling a 2006 Solstice apart. In the process of adding A/C and had to replace the HVAC case.

Hello) And again I applaud you - there hasn't been a similar video on the network yet! This will help many of Sol's owners. And a little on the topic. In many cases, water is life. In the case of a car, this is resuscitation. The process is moving!

This episode is a great service to Kappa enthusiasts on how to remove the dash. Over the years many folks have asked how to remove the boomerang, how to replace the LED instrument lights, how to install aftermarket gauge faces, how to replace dash buttons, etc. Now I can point them to this video, thanks.

Thanks Pat! This wasn’t shown in the video, but I ended up taking the gauge cluster apart and there was corrosion inside it, so I ordered another one. Thanks for continuing to watch the channel!

So while you checked for power to the cluster, you didn't check for SIGNAL/DATA to the cluster. I imagine it would be a low voltage CAN or LIN signal. I would have obtained wiring and circuit schematics and looked for continuity in those signal circuits.

Never use a torch unless your doing plumbing way to hard to control heat in small area definitely use soldering iron even if it's a $5 one would work then just touch wire or contact until its hot enough for soder to melt on it

The carfax check would definitely give you idea where the car miles might be.

Congratulations on not breaking anymore than one tab. Those handle tabs are notoriously weak. More are likely one time use. 🙄🙄

Mark, Amazing video. I recently bought a 09 Solstice. A few days after I purchased it I discovered that it doesn’t have A/C. It was a cool day when I bought it, so no need to turn on the A/C. Why someone would buy a car without A/C in this country is a mystery to me. 🙄 So now I’m looking at adding a complete used A/C system, which I have a line on, to the car. Just wondering how many “actual” hours it took you to remove the dash down to the point where the HVAC housing where the evaporator is located? Your newest subscriber would greatly appreciate it if you could respond. Thanks, Bill

Thanks for subscribing! I didn’t know they made any Solstices without a/c. Is the wiring harness the same? From memory I would guess about 2 hours or less to get all the dash off. Also remember you’ll have to remove steering wheel. Hopefully our video has enough detail if you pause it to see where all the screws are. Good luck!

@@rebuildit Thanks for responding to my post, much appreciated!! One more thing I thought maybe I’d run by you. Yesterday I received a cost estimate of $1,400 (labour only) from a local GM dealer just to install the Evaporator. Needless to say this was a bit of a shock. After watching a couple of your videos I got the sense that you’re a “dive in” and see what you find kind of a guy. After looking at my drawings and pictures for hours it dawned on me, and I know this sounds radical, that a guy might be able to obtain access to the Evaporator bay in the HVAC housing under the dash by cutting out an access window through the firewall to expose the back side of the HVAC housing and then carefully cut an access window into the HVAC housing itself to gain full access to the Evaporator bay. As far as I can tell, the evaporator just slides in to the bay so once the access window has been cut out, in theory the evaporator should be easy to install. So, my question; with all your knowledge and experience, would you say this is doable or am I like dreaming in technicolor? I’ve already figured out how to deal with the A/C system wiring so the installation of the evaporator is the only thing standing in my way at this point. Again, your feedback would be much appreciated! Cheers, Bill

Bill, I appreciate your kind words. I’m sorry to disappoint you, but I just don’t have any experience dealing with the a/c system in these cars. All the ones that I have worked on had functioning systems. I would recommend joining the Solstice forum if you have not already. There is a wealth of information and experience from the members there. I know there are a few who have installed factory a/c in their cars because I found an old post dealing with the issue. Here is a link: www.solsticeforum.com/threads/where-can-i-get-an-a-c-kit.67691/ I wish you the best of luck. Mark

@@rebuildit I can confirm for a 06 Solstice that the wiring harness is different for the model without A/C. You have to run wires and add pins to the harness connectors for the portions under the hood.

Couldn’t believe we made it through with only breaking one! Next episode should be more in depth on restoring the dash.
