When it comes to airbrush primer I get better results when I degrease the models prior to priming with IPA, I know its adding an extra step but I paid a fortune for my airbrush so i'm bloody well going to use it!
@bornincrimson9 ай бұрын
Thanks for the shout-out on the Falcon! I’ll have to see if there’s anything Chaos-y on my shelves. Re priming - some products absolutely need curing time. I do a lot of priming with acrylic inks and set them aside for a day or two, otherwise the base zenithal will tear if you use a brush on it. You can also just do the priming and do a light coat of airbrush varnish over it.
@jmgehr019 ай бұрын
For the airbrush primer thing. Ive noticed a difference in it coming off when using airbrush thinner/flow improver. I believe air brush primers are designed to just be used without additives. Add them and the primer breaks down. So crank that air pressure and prime away.
@rankcolour87809 ай бұрын
I kind of agree but some stuff can be thinned adequately with just plain old water, even primer. I never spray at more than 28psi and if I ass anything but water I use a mixture of maybe 3 parts water 1 part thinner and I use old school thinner (doesn't contain flow improver), which as a solvent helps primer dry faster when it's aerosolised. Flow improver 100% is not for use with primers. You want your Primer to stick to detail tight and dry fast. Flow improver that acts like a retarder & lets primer stay wet and flow on the surface instead.
@ADhammer9 ай бұрын
Nah, just do a second coat. It will still be thinner than a rattle can and won’t obscure the detail.
@chipmonklarry9 ай бұрын
I recently discovered that too, instead of thinning with thinner/flow aid, I used filtered water to thin it down and it was much more durable. Must be the chemical composition of the thinner/flow aid that affects the primer.

Just to add, thank you George, Ive been hunting for the 'perfect' dropper bottle, after many trial an errors, I now have Vallejo 70095!. I also want to thank the rest of the team for some great tips and advice, highlights being wet pallet prep (no TX Max for me) and learning better brush control by not trying to do everything in sub assembles!

The type of light bulb can make huge a different in how color is perceived. A warmer more 'yellow' light or a colder 'blue' makes a difference.

The Beast lover I would choose is Cecilia Reyes. She would be the easiest to dress up the model as. They were eventually married and had kids in "The End" spinoff. She had pretty neat forcefield abilities.

Another winner of a chat that easily entertains me during a few hours at the painting table. Having seen Instagram before this video I had to chuckle at how well "I'm not doing the shoulder pad rims black" aged 😂. And totally agree on the painting of tufts in the same logic as we paint our rocks to look like rocks but at the right scale. I was at Warhammer World the other day and there was a double diorama of Ironjawz Vs Sylvaneth and one cabinet didn't look right. It was due to the one side having bare rocks, pebbles and tree branches and without them being painted it broke the immersion. The other side had painted textures and even scale leaves to sell the illusion and looked so much better. Great work by the community on Biel-Tanuary. Looking forward to seeing what happens in Fabiuary.

Part of the reason i enjoy my dark angels army is that i can mix and match if i domnt wanna paint green today i can do some termies or bike in a diff scheme

I tried no ambient room light at home and yeah, it felt like I had batman over my shoulders about to scream at me and slam my face into my model for getting trim paint on a panel.

I love the passion of the debate! Maybe i'm off base, but it makes me wish unit/company/ rank colors for non-spare marine armies were more clear. Like yea each csm warband has a color scheme but it's harder to find the minor details that DA have (like in their terminators).

Paint a Blood Angel and then go back and paint another Dark Angel and then keep repeating that for every model until you have a full army of both.

Adding my tuppence to the conversation, I have been a BA lover since the late 80's but if your doing it for the painting then you have to go for the DA as the new sculptures are fantastic 🎨🎨

great podcast as always chaps. I have a question for you. If you were doing a big centre piece character like a primarch for a legion with a coloured metallic scheme, like alpha legion. How would you go about doing the armour to push it further than the rest of your dudes?

Blood Angels are clearly the best angels. In regards to airbrush primer vs rattle can primer, with an airbrush you are controlling the paint flow/air pressure with can affect the bonding properties of the paint as its hitting the surface....too much air and its too dry by the time it hits the surface and its not going to bond to the plastic. Rattle cans are a grab and go, simplified solution to airbrushes. I can also rattle can prime a 2k point army in a lot shorter period of time than with an airbrush.

Its the animation and its coming a book for callis and toll, the silver shard. And the beast in xmen has a thing for mystice when he is young. And not painted tuffs on a base dont look right, everything needs to get paint to incoporate it with the rest, so i always paint my tuffs

The best chapter is obviously White Scars. Distinctive models, classic colour scheme, excellent lore and the books are great. And Jaghatai. What a guy. Only drawback: you're painting white. Lots of white. And red. But mainly white. Whiiiite... Eh, just collect Raven Guard.
@AT-gr4qx9 ай бұрын
Why doesn’t George do a Dark Angels army for himself, then help James by painting a unit for his Blood Angels when their range refresh comes out. We all know he’s gonna need the whole team for there to be any chance for him to finish an army. Looking forward to you both playing your newly completed armies against each other in 2037.

Just wanna throw my hat into the ring with blood angels vs dark angels. White Scars forever. Same colour across the army, primarch to return and the chapter had traitors in the horus heresy and just got rid of them instantly instead of spending 10000 years crying about it while keeping it a secret. MOTOR BIKES BABY

I'm confused about dude saying that using airbrush primer gives him a "way smoother and more detailed mini." Unpainted plastic isn't even "way smoother or more detailed" than a mini that's been primed with a can, so is the airbrush adding detail somehow? Where does it come from? Of course, at the end of the day, you don't actually have to prime plastic., it's completely optional.
