Crabs typically bury due to tidal changes. When tide rushes in, and out, especially on large tidal swings, they'll bury to escae the current. Slack tide, and the hour on either end is generally when the crab are up and walking the most because that is when the current is moving the least. Makes sense there wasn't many around since you were going from high tide to a negative tide. That's a big swing in a short time, so the current for them will be hard to navigate. I've been equally successful crabbing on slack high, and slack low, the key is in timing the tide changes. Great video bro!

Crab will dig into the mud if the current pulls them off the bottom. They don't like that. An old crabber told me that just the other day.

The “crab butter” is actually a digestive gland known as the hepatopancreas, an equivalent to our liver and pancreas. Also very delicious.

The orange/yellow stuff in the crab is called tomalley and it's actually the crab's liver and pancreas. Affectionately known as "crab mustard” ,“crab fat”, or "crab butter". And as you know it's full of quite intense flavor.

What do you think are the best conditions to fish on the west coast from the beach and/or the rocks? I built an algorithm / website that predicts how good the next few days will be for fishing (over the next week), and want to see if it's actually good or nah lol

You should definitely mention that your wetsuit is an "open-cell" wetsuit. A lot of subscribers that might want to give this a try might go out and buy a surfing wetsuit and be extremely underprepared as a result. Also, definitely do some research into shallow water blackout as that's the #1 reason having a dive buddy will save your life outside of "feeling a bit more safe". There's a lot more nuance to freediving that isn't common knowledge, but is extremely important if you want to stay safe out in the ocean

Crab, especially dungenous, is just one of those perfect things to eat without having to do much to it aside from cooking it. And it's sustainable so no guilt eating it.

Washington and Oregon they clean their crab before boiling. The meat is much sweeter, I don't know why California boils whole crab. I always clean my crabs, boil in salt water with some Old Bay. So much better this way.

Crab butter is the fat in their body. But as I've stated before on your videos, it's suggested you don't eat more than one crab's butter often, it's where the heavy metals collect in their body. Up here we skip it, make regular garlic butter and dip in cocktail sauce.
@jeffscantling61999 ай бұрын
you should clean that diving reel in a pot of warm water at home. Just submerge it and reel it while it is submerged for a bit, it will get most of the salt out and extend its life a bit. Totally worth destroying a reel though!

100% they bury themselves for protection from current and predators. Lots of snare fishermen are too concerned about their snares staying in the same spot. Don't worry about letting your snare move around. If it passes by a crab they will come out and grab it. When your snare stops moving a crab is on and on tight.
@jimlivingston70779 ай бұрын
Great job. Now imagine using your limit of crab snares with floats and swim from snare to snare, moving them to find hot spots. Try tobacco brand garlic sauce 😋
