To paraphrase an old saying: if it's stupid and useful, it's not stupid.

Keep it simple, keep the expectations low and when it works, you'll be happy. :)

I just use 18" magnetic strips from Harbor freight for $1.78 on sale mount them on 3/4" plywood. Replaces my pegboard.

Okay now that's brilliant! I'll have to look into that as a way to augment my pegboard. (Too soon to take it down!!)

I might have used a printer to print out a sheet with text on it, and then covered the paper with two layers of packing tape for protection. That would make quick-and-easy labels. But like you said, doing the rudimentary version often has its benefits.

Holy cow, that would have been a great step to take! (Suppose I still can.) I was thinking of using my wife's label maker but I don't they'd stick to the surface. Your idea is much better.

@@rattlingaroundthegarage Hopefully it turns out well! Random suggestion -- print the text with a white foreground and black background, so the label blends in with the black paint somewhat.

@@interiot2 Copy that. I like the white on black look anyway, so good call.

Oh holy smokes! Ideas?! Actually, now that I think about it, maybe that's what this channel is good for: "Wow, that guy is so out of his depth. Then again, it does give me an idea of how I can do it much better." 🤣

I have something similar, but even worse, for screw bits, made from a scrap of plywood, and it's seen an embarrassing amount of use. I should probably do something about that. Next week. Or over the holidays. As soon as the other projects are done, I'll definitely do it.

Man, I was working in the shop last night and realized damn, I should have added space for screw bits!! Will modify it to do that, as you say, next week, or over the holidays, or after I do this other project, or when pigs fly....

Enjoy your videos. Thanks Basic is always good. Too many videos on the fancy side that just cost too much money and time.

Right?! I mean, like like workshop porn as much as the next person, but eventually I need to return to the real world and work with what I have. Thanks for your comment and encouragement!

This is a good idea ! I can actually use a left over black styrofoam block for this (can I ?)

Actually that sounds like a great idea! I really like the idea of upcycling, and Styrofoam is especially tricky to apply to a new use. Go for it!
