A full bridge rectifier converts AC to DC, and an inverter converts DC to AC. I would absolutely love to see just a chain of rectifiers and inverters for the fun of it.
@coastersaga2 жыл бұрын
I'm drawing a schematic for a circuit I call a CATR (Current Amplifying Transistor Rectifier) right now. This is similar to a full bridge rectifier but it uses transistors instead of diodes. This keeps the DC voltage output the same as the AC input voltage, but the DC output will have a larger current, which is determined by the beta value of the transistors. Low-power applications would use signal transistors, but high-power applications would use power transistors.
@alexalvaradocali3863 Жыл бұрын
@@coastersaga where could I find your schematic
@foogod4237 Жыл бұрын
@@coastersaga Unless I've misunderstood you, what you're describing is actually impossible. If the output voltage is the same, but the current is higher, then your circuit would be _producing more power than it's consuming,_ which would violate the laws of physics. The only way you can produce more current is by reducing the voltage, or vice-versa.

good video. A story of my own fuckup: I was doing work on a small electric car which is a two car-battery 48v system, and I was trying to rig up a shunt resistor on the positive rail and probe the output to see the current. The car is isolated from ground because it's running on batteries and is up off the floor on rubber tires, so not a problem to attach the ground of the probe to a point which is right on the positive rail. I'm sitting in the seat of the car with about 4 alligator clip leads draped across my lap and doing some tests while looking at the scope on the bench. As I'm free-running the motor without a chain the vibration makes the car roll back just slightly and the metal frame touched the apparently grounded metal wall behind me. The wires in my lap light up and some stuff caught on fire with a bang.

Hi Mehdi, could you explain why you get 170VDC over the cap even tough the max amplitude of the FULLBRIDGERECTIFIER is 120VDC at 1:00? Thanks, really love your videos!
@ElectroBOOM8 жыл бұрын
+bume nicläs The input is 120VAC, which means it has 170V peaks. And through bridge rectifier they result in around 170VDC.
hello guys from last linus tech tips video about power supplies

2:34 -- Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh!!! Probe, HOW DARE YOU pop fuses while being grounded! That's it, with some capton tape on the ac ground prong, you are now grounded grounded grounded grounded grounded grounded grounded safely! When Mehdi is done you will go to your room and never ever come out!

You jumped at the end from residual capacitance yet held your finger across it earlier to show that the DC voltage wasn't particularly dangerous. Hmmmmm :)
@OmiP429 жыл бұрын
Yeah, because DC from the output and DC from a capacitor are two different things.
@DoubleYouPee19 жыл бұрын
Omkar Pradhan why? more voltage?
@OmiP429 жыл бұрын
Large amount of charge delivered in a short time through a capacitor.

Dude, your videos are great, you are hilarious and you explain things in a way I can understand, could you make an induction heater and explain it's components and how it works ?

Love this style of teaching. Boring teachers should take note.
