Thank you for sharing your process on the making of this artistic pendant. it seemed like you put something into the bezel cup before you added the opal? Can you share what that was and why? To raise the stone? For background on a semi transparent opal? Thanks.

I love it Basia! 😍 I didn't know you could use patina all over like that. Which burs are you using here? I have some that look similar but I think maybe the ends aren't as sharp because they don't leave a neat line or dot like that one, wide and less accurate 😬

Thank you lovely! 😍 I've tiny round burrs by Busch. I bought them at Cooksongold. And I mean really the little ones. And I usually try to position them perpendicularly to make these dots too. For the lines, I have used the burr that is more like a round knife. It's flat and the sharp edge goes all around. I have no idea how to call it, I'm sorry! But it's great for the lines and deeper cuts.

I have question also I was hoping you could help me with...what gauge silver sheet should I use to stamp circles I make with my Pepe disc cutter and then dome them for earrings?? I dont seem to be very good at stamping! lol ! Thanks.
@TheArtOfMetalsmithing
@TheArtOfMetalsmithing 2 жыл бұрын
What seem to be the issue? Is the stamping too deep or too shallow? Or does the metal bend too much? Let me know and I think I will be able to help you much better :) In the meantime, I usually go for 0.50mm - 0.60mm metal sheet thickness

At the time of making this video I was using a flat, wooden bench peg attached to the bench vice (so I could elevate it, to use it with a regular desk and still have it at the level of my chest). I show how I made it in one of the tips and hacks video, not the most recent, but one before that 😃

Hiya Lady Stardust, So you sprinkled some stardust on the sky? WOW! This or the wave, this or the wave? I'm so glad I've got the wave, and I would never swap it, but I may count my pennies... Will you be making more of these? You seemed to be saying you would in the film? Dear Lady this is so good, again! Your signature pine trees in the foreground, yes, they work to harmonise the whole picture, and it is a picture, a miniature worthy of hanging in a display case with my two others. I can see why others want to copy your design or style, you are fantastic, as are your skills, and indeed you are too. How are you with blood? What! Why ask? Because with your incredible steady hands you would make a hell of a surgeon! Your work cutting out, and then engraving the silver! I've watched some films on Argentium soldering, and it seems to solder very well, but, why is there always a but? Okay a good one this time, the germanium atoms melt together so no need for solder, it, (Dam I've forgotten the word for when the metal melts together without solder!) Anyway, it does look wonderful if that is the look you want. How was the Pepe Tools fire scale preventer to use? As you didn't show loads of sanding to remove the scale I'm guessing it worked well? So yes, to say you've done it again would be an understatement, a very large one! I don't have enough adjectives to describe this work of art adequately, does anyone? Yes, I want one, again! Thank you for showing us this wonderful video, I love that you share like this. Stay safe you two, Steve xx...

The contrast is wonderful! So is the opal! It bring back those carefree days when I was reading the books for the first time - nothing quite like this magical feeling. I've recently been dealing with different kinds of patina solutions in order to achieve the blackest result, but noticed that acid based ones are being removed in the ultrasound... Did your by any chance experience that phenomenon too?
@TheArtOfMetalsmithing
@TheArtOfMetalsmithing 2 жыл бұрын
oh, I completely agree! I have fond memories of the time when I once binge watched all movies almost in one sitting, back at the uni 😄 Oh to be able to go back to that moment :)) As for the patina, I haven't put any pieces with the patina in the ultrasound, so I won't be able to answer. I believe I've heard people recommend not to put patina in there, as it will be removed. Perhaps it also depends on the solution used in the ultrasound. But again, please don't quote me on that, as I'm not sure 🙏

Beautiful work, truly! I'm sad that it's related to Harry Potter though, since JKR has turned out to be such a terrible human. I'm just going to pretend that it's a Scottish castle :)
@TheArtOfMetalsmithing
@TheArtOfMetalsmithing 2 жыл бұрын
You know, I feel you. In my case, I try to separate the two now. If this story was just starting out and was much more connect to the author, I would be far more cautious in celebrating it. But I look at it from another perspective now. HP grew beyond JKR, many people worked on the movies and took the story further. JKR isn't HP in its entirety anymore. And elements she used to build this world are also, just like you said, elements that are Scottish in nature.. The castle, streets and alleyways of Edinburgh, the Glenfinnan viaduct, the Steam Train (that runs between Glasgow and Fort William, through the Glenfinnan viaduct). Because the movies were filmed in those areas, I see HP through the eyes of people who worked on the movies much more, than the imaginative world of JKR :)

Can i ask a question? What is that sticking paper that you used? Is it some special.paper used in jewelry making or is it a regular label sticking paper? Thank you for the beautiful tutorial!!!

I enjoy referring back to this video now and then for inspiration. Did you say this was from Adobe stock? I'd like a better way of transferring designs to metal but need to learn some of the technical aspects. It would be great if you did a video on design transfer. I've always done freehand but sometimes it just looks better with a template. Thank you Basia!

My secret is a design, that's printed o the paper and then attached to a double sided sticky tape. Or, like in this case, I print directly on a label paper, which is adhesive. To scale my designs I use word document or Canva (online) and i try with different sizes and then choose the size that fits my project best. And then, I usually use those scaled designs to scale my new ones, I don't have to start from 0, guessing what size I need, I just use the previous ones as a reference. I hope it helps! I'm not sure if I will be able to make a dedicated video on this subject, but I'll keep it in mind and will do my best to include it ❤️

Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it ❤️ This particular design I found on Adobe Stock (an artist was offering it through that service). There are lots of artists selling their designs on Etsy too - it's best to search for "vector design" and add tag words we're interested in. For example Witcher vector logo or design. Flower vector designs etc. I hope this helps!

Hahaha, I would love to keep it, trust me! 😄 But I want to offer it to someone, who will love it as much as I do, so I decided to list it in my shop next week. The site I used is called Adobe Stock (not sponsored), I use some app by Adobe, so I wanted to check out their stock too. And I found this vector design there. I'm dojung a month free trial with them and withing that trial you can get 10 elements for free :) Just don't forget to cancel the trial before the the month ends! Wouldn't want to be charged for the whole year if you don't inted to purchase a lot.
