Hiya Lady Stardust. another wonderful video, thank you!!! It looks like a good saw, how does it compare with the knew? That blade was doing very well also. I love the way you saw up a line to show the shape & size with only one line, like on the sunflower around the leaves. I tried that on my last name I did & it worked well. A young thing like yourself suffering cramp in her left hand holding down the silver... mine knots up & it's game over for the day or two... The joys of age lol. that's so lovely! Thank you Steve xx Ah, yes, the cramp was bad hahaha 😄 But it's becasue I was sawing in one go for the video, usually I take short breaks. No point in exhausting the hands like this! It's better to rest and then continue, it gives better precision :)

@@TheArtOfMetalsmithing That is very true, but it is fun when you get a run going & you can see your shape appearing from the sheet. Yes it's there in ink but when it's forever?!? I do get carried away & cut too close rather than file to the line, doing some Norse style patterens, nice & easy & no small cutouts, well too small anyway. i really like your video. highly educational and really relaxing. but i have question. how does one solder details like these ones onto a silver surface? i have been trying to find a video or tutorial that talks about soldering details onto plating. do you lay tiny solder chips under the details pieces, that cause the pieces to be conjoined? would really love to know how this is done. could someone point me in the right direction?

Great video, the music and your voice are so soothing, I think I could have meditated during the video, or taken a short nap. I am American so I love your accent. Your other videos are great as well. I am finally deciding to invest in a more expensive saw. I hope you do a video soon comparing all the different models you own, and telling us which you prefer. In the meantime, I can tell you that, truthfully, there aren't huge differences between them, and I really like Knew Concepts, Haymaker and GreenLion equally! Each one offers something different, just personally to me, which I will explain in the video. But you can't go wrong with them, they are all great. So if the money is the main factor, you can go for the cheaper one of these first 😍

I am leaning toward the Knew Concepts saw right now because I like the way the blade gets mounted/tensioned. I use the German style saw now and my fingers get so sore from changing blades, trying to turn the little wing nuts. I'm sure any saw will be an improvement over that thing. I might wait for your video to make a purchase if I can hold out, haha. Are there any blade brands you recommend? hiya flower nice work but that goes for the fingers, holding the piece down tight to the peg bit of a bugger sometimes your fingers lock tight and that is painful, sit for five mins trying to untangle them and nearly crying, great vlog again always look forward to them see what you have been getting up to, you do some stunning work, keep up with the engraving practice practice i wont put the other one in i think you will get the gist haha, take care keep well keep safe.

Hello, I am playing a little bit with metal jewellery. I have one questions regarding preserving metals from oxidation. I work mainly with brass, copper and galvanized steel which is a great low cost substitution for silver. After I shape and sand the metal, sooner or later it oxidize. The brass and copper turns dark and the steel turns white. What would you advise to preserve the metals from oxidation and keeping them shiny? Thank you!

Please copy as many organizational ideas as you wish! They are all to make our lives easier and our workshops organized 🥰 As for cutting, sadly no. These cutter are used for cutting straight lines, wires or some larger bezel. The piercing saw is used by jewellers for precise sawing, which cutters or shears wouldn't be able to handle

Thank you so much, that's very sweet! :) I use a simple double sided tape, it can be found in pound shops, craft stores and home depots etc. Here I believe I used 5/0 or 6/0 blades. I ususally go for these ones, sometimes 8/0 for very fine sawing

You're right B, watching you saw really helps me see how I can do it better (smaller tighter blades). Are the Pepe blades better you think? I have the Haymaker too. I'll have to practice with the engraving adapter some more for sure. I finished the smallest line with the burr, which I already am more confident in using :) Oh, and the blades are AMAZING!! And I mean it, I usually bought the Super Pike Swiss Blades, but I can feel Pepe ones are better. I will have to get their 6/0 and 8/0, but so far the 5/0 did a great job

I’ve never used a saw blade (metal clay doesn’t require one) but I feel like the monotony of the up and down motions would be soothing. I would also have a fear of sawing my finger 😊

it would be ok! Because you'd know how to place your hand and there's also a bench peg that's meant to prevent the saw blade from going too far 😊 I think you'd enjoy it! It's one of my favourite things to do actually, I love sawing. I usually listen to a podcast while I do it, and I can focus so much better!

How are you turning those sharp edges/corners without breaking your saw over and over again!?!?

When I need to make a turn, I don't just twist my metal or the saw frame, becasue that will snap the blade. The saw doesn't cut like the scissors, so you need to make sure you are turning properly. I move my saw up and down several times in one place, making sure I have enough room to then safely turn the blade and start cutting in another direction. Hope that helps! :)

On the end of your video did you glue or solder a silver cutout silver leaf onto flat silver sheet then just saw around the leaf and leaving a edging like a border?

wow the saw looks amazing to cut with. how do you file and sand in those tiny crevices you were making or is it a case of its so small no one will notice the rough edge?

So, one maker shared a great tip with me in the past, which I use all the time now. It's to use a finer saw blade! This way your edges will be cleaner and not much cleaning will be required afterwards. I usually cut with at least 5/0, most of the time it's 6/0, and 8/0 for very fine designs. If you still would like to clean the edges though, you can thread a thin stripe of finer grade sanding paper and move it a few times, that should do the trick! 😃

You can do it! With practice of course, so don't get discouraged too quickly! ❤️ It takes some time, but practice makes it easier :) This is sterling silver (fine would be way too soft!) and it was 22 gauge (0,6mm)

Great videos! Can you do anything with the scrap Silver?

Of course! You can send it to a company that recycles the scrap silver and get the money back or new silver. Or you can recycle it yourself if you have the tools, the space and skills! It's not very difficult, but requires time to learn (safety is the most important!) and tools required are an investment. You will need a rolling mill to roll your ingot after melting, to create wires or sheets.

I've had the GreenLion saw frame for almost two years now, I really like it! Actually, I'm a very lucky owner of all three great ones now, including Knew Concepts as well. how do you adhere your design to the metal while you're sawing it out?

I use simple, double sided tape! So I will print or draw my design on the paper, then stick it onto the tape, and that stick that onto the metal :) Quick, effortless and inexpensive solution!

I usually draw most of my designs, but I encourage everyone who may not feel comfortable with drawing themselves to purchase designs online, there are stock websites (and even on Etsy) and many designs can be purchased for a good price :)

Little & often is I believe the saying? I like books on cd's to pass the time but as my library is closed Planet Rock radio works for me... Practice makes perfect, well, close in my case...
