Tip: Get the bicycle called - "The Chief" from company Firmstrong, (comes in one frame size only size- 21.5") the whole engine will fit in the frame including the tank and the stock exhaust.

I have used old bicycle wheel spokes with great success, they’re usually stainless steel so they don’t rust easily and they are very stiff where they are bent and can be used for odd bends and L shapes to clear different components.

I have a phatmoto with 79cc, i. Thinking of rigging either a 120 or 160, cant decide yet which would be easier/better but was wondering what you think about the 120cc comparred to the torque and power of a 79cc, do you think its a noticable difference? Can maybe climb hills better? Thanks
@BenCarano
@BenCarano 4 жыл бұрын
As for your debating about the 120cc or 160cc, you would need to make sure your bike would fit the 160cc. For me it was too big to fit in my frame by like a half inch so I had to go with the 120. In terms of a noticable differences between 79cc and 120cc, the 120cc will definitely have a little more torque (I'm able to ride it with two people, about 300lbs on the bike, on most terrain). However if the rider weight is under around 200lbs and you don't ride it on steep hills in the mountains all the time you should have no issue with the 79cc.

Do you need the trans? You inspired me to make a similar build, but my engine would only fit with the shaft on the bike right side (cylinder pointing forward). I’m figuring I’m going to have a hard time getting the chain from the trans to the wheel.
@BenCarano
@BenCarano 3 жыл бұрын
You definitely need it with a gas engine. You would not with an electric but fuel injected engines don't have instant torque right off the bat so you would need something. They can definitely be finicky to line up sometimes!
@EpicLabs24
@EpicLabs24 3 жыл бұрын
@@BenCarano Realize the problem is bigger than what I stated earlier. This is my first build so I’m making a lot of mistakes. Anyhow, the way I put the engine in would mean the bike would be stuck in reverse (Didn’t realize that the PTO side spins counter-clockwise). I’m going to have to force the engine in the “right” way, which will probably make me have to lean the cylinder head up a bit. Based on the manual, that shouldn’t be a problem.
@BenCarano
@BenCarano 3 жыл бұрын
@@EpicLabs24 tilting it up a bit won't be too bad. I generally like to keep them pretty level, but I know many people who tilt them and don't have a problem!

Dam it you just said it 160cc won't fit damn it, damn it, damn it 1/2" inch. What if I lifted it up an inch or 2" on to the 45° degree bar? The motor you got cost 3 times more than a 160cc😢

@@BenCarano Dang, that's a fair whack of change! The quality shows though. Of all the 4 stroke bike builds I've seen on YT I keep coming back to yours for inspiration. I figured I can slap one together for about 1.5k on the cheap. That's using a Micargi steel frame Rover or Huntington bike, a GX clone engine, cargo bike tyres, and all the miscellaneous parts to put it together and get her running. I'd really love to get my hands on a genuine Honda though, but obviously that bumps the price up significantly. Either way, super pumped to start my build! And thanks for the great inspiration 😎👍
@BenCarano
@BenCarano Жыл бұрын
@@Jezza_C_WT Thanks!! Good luck on your build!! Also, even if you get a clone honda the mounts are in the same spot so you can always switch it out later! Only thing you'd have to do is get metric hardware to mount it

@BenCarano
@BenCarano 3 жыл бұрын
For this exact build, assuming I got everything right the first time, was about $3,800. However if you want to cut costs from that the first thing to do is get cheaper wheels. I spent about $750 on the wheels alone because at the time the only option for ones that were strong enough in my opinion was to custom build them. Now I have found fairly nice pre-made ones that are like $180 for the set.

Cool video bud. It's good to see the next generation getting into mechanical work and adapting with your own ideas. The governor works excellent on a Honda engine and of coarse it doesn't move unless it's running the governor works by spinning and throwing weights out and hits the gov arm which properly adjusts the carb. Honda small engine are the very best in the world that's why every single other motor is a clone of their design . I come her to get tops and hints and now I am running away from this channel due to the complete nonsense that's been spoken . I am a Honda warranty tech along with Briggs makita Hitachi multiple other brands for 10 years now and I have never seen a better motor then Honda nor have I seen the gov arm move without running the engine which are centrifugal and are controlled by rpmthe faster the motor spins the further the weights are thrown out the more the arm moves that why when u have a engine that hunts u can sit and watch the gov arm surge back and forth
