This is my last video of my three part series on building a Honda GX 120cc motorized bike. I am so exited for this build to finally be done and I'm sure you are too, so stay tuned for the video where I will explain how to do the break-in period for the engine as well as a test ride.

I put a 31/2 Briggs on a bike . Took it cross bc many miles . But your bike is the way to build them and good power . I had to peddle up dozens of summets . I can see your bike would do well with any hill . Thanks , been looking for years , for one better than mine . Found it .

Great job! The three videos were really interesting. I realize that a 2 stroke has advantages as far as weight and fewer mods to fit inside the frame and other considerations, but the 4 gives you the reliability, a greater sense of security, and real feel of a motorcycle. Your ride to the mountains was great and your comments were clear...it felt like I was riding with you! I only wish your camera was more pointed towards the front to get the panoramic view as you saw it.....Great job!!

While I have tremendous respect for the work I've seen you do, I must state that that is NOT a torque convertor. There is one company who mislabeled their Constantly Variable Transmission (which is it's proper name), or CVT, as a Tork-A-Vertor (sp?) and started all this confusion. So, now you know. Keep up the good work.

Please put a front suspension fork. It will take 50% of the stress on the frame, given the weight of the engine and your body. And a spring saddle will help too. Ha ha I know the cops wont open up the engine and measure the bore and the stroke lol. Put a 49cc sticker on the engine. That's what I did :) Awesome build by the way. Keep cruising ! EDITED - Don't forget to put on the transmission cover so your shoe laces don't get caught in the belt. Ride safe.

It's odd really as it's quite a low revving 120cc and thus is quite a relaxed tune. There are 50cc engines with way more power. The engine in a Piaggio Zip is probably one of them.

When breaking in a brand new kart engine your doing exactly that. Breaking it in. When assembling it you would use a molly based assembly lube on the internals. Then run a thin cheap 5w-20w to initially break it in on. Before firing the motor for the first time. Rotate the engine assembly 360 degrees side to side and front to back with oil in the crank case. This will ensure everything inside the engine has been pre lubed. Run it for about 15-20 minutes. Breaking a engine in is essentially seating/wearing/lapping every metal mechanical part to a Match. A thick oil with a bunch of additives like the Lucas will actually prevent the engine from breaking/seating the rings and all the other components to each other. Once it’s broken in and ready for 2nd oil change. Lucas/Royal purple(zinc) or Shaffers7000 racing oil has molly in it. All three prevent the metal components from creating less friction and wear between metal components. In my honest opinion the shaffers racing oil is the best.

I'm wondering if these can be adapted to run off a broken Bafang BBS.. transmission. It might be worth searching for any with blown motors. That way you'd have the freewheel and bike transmission built in. I think the reduction is only 15:1 though so you might need a mini belt reduction.

Is the 120cc in the same family as the 160cc , 196cc ,212cc. I'd like to put one together with the 79cc sized engine. But not sure if the 120cc is the mid sized or the 79cc sized engine. If it's the 79cc size a person could squeeze it in under the radar as a 49cc , especially if you had a Laser etch the bock crankcase. My scooter 🛵 is a 125 but had professional decals made in the same script of the other writing that say 49cc. Anyway haven't had any problems yet.
@JK-zl7vv
@JK-zl7vv Жыл бұрын
On your engine braking, it's not something that is favorable, because if you had to pedal the bike, you would be fighting against the CVT, even if the engine if off, so it would be best to put a one way bearing in the sprocket that is at the CVT that goes to the wheel, This way you can Coast down hills as well as pedal the bike like a normal bike with no resistance from the CVT drive components. As far as noise goes, had you ever thought of getting a rear bike rack (the type to hold saddle bags), and put a much longer quieter muffler between the bike rack and rear fender, this will make it quieter and the rack will act like a muffler shield so things wont be able to get burnt on it. Great job brother 🤠🙏💖
@BenCarano
@BenCarano Жыл бұрын
the engine braking only is effective with a bit of throttle applied to the engine, otherwise it's like you said being no resistance to pedal which is nice. i do have another seat for it and luggage rack, just usually prefer the look without it. Not too loud but i could be a tiny bit quieter at times. Obviously I don't hear it cuz I'm the one riding it, but to others who aren't always going fast in front of the engine it would definitely sound louder haha. Glad you like the build!

Im really liking what im seeing with these higher powered 4 stroke engines on bikes. You said that initially you were going to get a gx160, i see those widely available, and lots of clones as well. I have a felt faker gas frame and id say that its pretty similar to yours, but im not sure about dimensions for motor fit. I like your idea about using a torque converter. One if the things that has made me shy away from the 4 strokes is how wide they seem to be on a bicycle. Have you run into problems, such as inconvenience, or uncomfortable about how wide they are mounted into the frame of a bike? Id say that i want at least the power you have with your motor. I wonder how big i could go before running into any clearance issues with my felt faker gas frame? Nice bike and thank you for the video 🙂

@BenCarano
@BenCarano 4 жыл бұрын
My rear sprocket is 36t the biggest advantage to a torque converter vs a centrifugal clutch is that it goes faster as the pulleys chang size as the engine speeds up. Welded that to the front of the bicycle then the rear end could take the punishment I even have rear suspension.

Having high torques makes all the difference because on a regular bike you would realistically take 3-4 hours doing 25 miles but on a motorized bike it would take 1.5 hours doing 25 miles.

awesome build. bbbbuuuuuuttttt those rims will fail with just the right hole in the road. take it easy brother
@BenCarano
@BenCarano Жыл бұрын
The rims are velocity rims. Some of the strongest in the world. They’ll hold up just fine and have for the past 6 years even after getting multiple flat tires and rising on just the rim to the roadside and then to walk it to a bike shop
@BenCarano
@BenCarano Жыл бұрын
The cheap normal rims this size would definitely fail though, I took that into account when building it

what is th epoint of leaving it idle for 30mins? why not just use the thing gently? it will have same results of running in
@BenCarano
@BenCarano Жыл бұрын
Good question, using it will pretty much do the same thing, idling it is just going the extra step as it is the easiest on the engine for the break-in

Hey everyone! I'm sure it will fit just fine, but you might have to make your motor mount to slightly different dimensions specific to your frame and rear wheel

@@BenCaranoI thought with that short exhaust pipe and small muffler it would be loud. Wow it seems to be very quiet like my 2200 watt Honda inverter generator on propane! Is that muffler the straight through type? For trails I like very quiet so no one calls the law. So far for a few years on side walks and trails. I always wave at people, I go pretty slow, I keep pedals turning with engine off most of the time. When engine is on and riding on trail or sidewalk in city. I"m coming up on someone I see I always try to cut the engine off ahead of time wave and pedal around the person with plenty of room. If person doesn"t move over I go off side walk or in grass. Keeps them from calling law.
