It did turn out nice. I wish I made it a little bigger. If it rains it’s gonna be kids size.

Love the choice of fabric. I purchased Neals series months back. I plan to start my shirt project this summer. I have the linen thread and several yards. of linen. I am trying to put together a pattern for French fly button trousers. from 1760-70s era . Awesome video looking forward to the next! 👍

You are braver than I my friend. I tried a pair of trousers and decided I needed a mentor first. They were fall fronts.

@thedeerskindiary is the pleated sleeves the only correct style ? Only one cape usually??
@thedeerskindiary Жыл бұрын
@@lusolad no there are both. Of the four surviving documented examples not all of them had pleated sleeves and it seems as though the pleats may have been added after the shirts were completed. Part of that is conjecture though. And there are indications of perhaps more then one cape based on some original drawings and certainly examples of more ornate fringe as well. Check out Meal Hurst’s paper on hunting shirts you can Google it and find the pdf online. It’s an excellent and probably the most exhaustive study to date.

Thank you. May I ask where you acquired your firearm?

Great start! I’ve hand sewn small parts of my kit, but haven’t taken the plunge into clothing. A more correct hunting shirt might be the place to start! I think I’ll start shopping for materials.

Beth Gilgun was a trailblazer for 18thC clothing, as well. Luckily, you don't have to be a tailor at all for shirts (as you know) as everything is cut straight and gathered/pleated to fit - all one has to do is sew a straight line lol. Using striped fabric for this ( or checked ) has always made shirts easier and faster for me to make, due to everything being squared edges. I've got a basic shirt how to coming for my channel, too. Good video.

Thank you! Beth’s book and articles were my very early teachers for this stuff. Her stuff is still very useful and timeless! Good luck with your shirt and project!

Are you able to open the document? The link is to the document that I found online and used to make a couple of Hunting shirts. It also indicates that there is supposed to be some sort of cape pattern but there is not.

was the pattern simple?
@thedeerskindiary8 күн бұрын
Yes it was. With the exception of the cape it was all squares and rectangles.
@bentleyepic17317 күн бұрын
@@thedeerskindiary ah, thanks. i have one more question(or two in the future) its about the shoulder seams. if you add 3 inches to your pattern, would that make the shoulder seam drape 3 inches? its probably a stupid question, but you cant be too safe. this is because historically, the shoulder seam was about 3 inches down.
