I have been using XPS foam and the shingle cutting jig from Shiftling Lands (quickly cut shingle strips) and it makes putting on shingles so cheap and easy. The houses I finished up recently look incredible with them on. Cutting is so easy and I have been going around odd shapes with multiple dormers. It still takes a while but has to be a lot easier than dealing with MDF strips.

Epic build that is modular in a whole different way! If I may be so bold, an effective way to stain wood or plaster with coffee is to use quadruple-strength instant coffee, the cheaper the better.

I lack your confidence in the process. You know what, the builder's kit has been on my shelf for long enough, I will start on it tonight (gives me an argument to skip doing the dishes another day).
@RealTerrainHobbies11 ай бұрын
Haha yes! Exactly, little by little, you can do it!! You may doubt yourself at times but I know you've got it in you. Starting with a small practice piece for things like plaster and whatnot goes a long way too. you got this ;)

Hey, if you want to stain stuff with coffee, there's a trick to it. Yes you can put very strong coffee on it. But it will likely stain it faintly. Spritz with water. Pack wet coffee grounds onto the places you want ot darkest. Then paint on some of the coffee. Enough to wet the surface and the grounds a bit. Let it set until it's almost dry. Then clean it off. The grounds will leech out a yellowish brown. It looks great and very natural. The bad parts, 1) not a lot of control with where it goes or how dark it is. 2 ) Because you are packing it on and letting it sit, you can only work one side of the building at a time. You could probably mix up a brown wash and it would work easier/better.
@RealTerrainHobbies11 ай бұрын
Hey, great tip! I'll definitely have to give that a try. Sounds like the leeching could make for some really great and natural effects!🙂🍻

crazy idea, looks great, and nicely proportioned, too. ^^ "Your house looks like mine, only that facade is different..." - "Well, I asked your architect." as for magnets, I've found very small, rather strong magnets on the lids of cardboard boxes that mysteriously snap shut. aftermarket car parts, electronics stuff, maybe even sweet bakery boxes can have those. you just have to dig them out of the cardboard... XD but yes, never throw anything away, you never know what detail it can add to your build or diorama. :)
