That could actually allow for a really, really cool Damascus pattern- sort of like a squared, grid-like Raindrop-ish pattern? Poke little pyramid holes in something, then squash it flat from the side?
@Kataclysm1136 жыл бұрын
i dont think that would entirely work like that, because poking holes in it and then squishing it flat from the side would just make a bunch of cold shuts, but if you hit it from the top with the pyramid spikes until they've bade a bunch of indents, and then ground the top off until it was flat, you could get a sort of concentric grid pattern.
@RX782GP036 жыл бұрын
maybe a safety example of what possibly a tenderized hand would look like
@mattsc7776 жыл бұрын
what if they had two pyramid sides and then they were forge-welded back into each others pyramid faces? making the teeth meet in the middle sort of yin-yang to each other? would that make a pattern or just pound out too flat to see a pattern?

Seriously Alec, I've noticed you putting yourself down what your education is concerned at times. I'm a Dutch guy living in Paris these days.. (Still hoping to cross Alex on the streets some time, but that aside) your French really is pretty darn good! Don't keep putting yourself down! Yes, you're still young and I might be almost twice your age... But just look at how mindboggeling good your are already at your craft... your art... I imagine you 20 years from now, and you wouldn't be competing on something like forged in fire, you'd be the top judge there! Your humbleness, your attitude and personality, the your tour de force approach to every little thing you attempt makes you all just more endearing to me. Beyond your videos, beyond your projects and beyond everything else, the way you approach life, the way you approach everything you do and everybody you meet... We could use a whole lot more of that in this world. (Oh, and Alex... Now that you're back from Italy and back from the UK as well apparently, you don't know just how much I'm waiting for you to figure out how to make some decent mozzarella at home... I've had the présure [rennet] laying around for a while now from even before you made your first ep on that topic... Your methodical approach is going to save me so much time to figure this all out myself! I won't even bother to mention my nascent Ramen addition. )

You should make a "basic" damascus steel kitchen knife set with like a chef's knife, butcher's knife, steak knives and whatever else kind of kitchen knife/knives. Each having having a different damascus pattern (steak knives all the same). Then somehow let your viewers buy entries for a chance for a random person to win the set of knives and having the money raised go to a charity of your (or the winner's) choosing. I know it would be a lot of work but I think it would be a cool idea to give your fans a chance to own something that you made that they can use everyday and to help out a good cause.

When you watch some guy on the internet for few months and he suddendly busts out your native language without warning. Took a few seconds for my brain to realise how good his french was.

I'm going to comment on this. Not something I ever expect you to really read tho, but. BUT.. This was an interesting fusion of things I LOVE. Blacksmithing, and cooking. As always keep up the awesome work, and eat well man. Thank you for such awesome content as always, and I would absolutely LOVE to see a bit more food related things. Whether it's chef's knives, mallets, or even backyard cooking sets. Please never forget where you started from, and who you inspire.. Backyard smiths that want things practical, and will be used on a daily basis. I personally love camp cooking. I love cooking, and making things to cook on/with when I go camping. That truly brings me the greatest joy out of all the thing I've ever made. Friends, family, food, and the outdoors. You inspire me very much everyday. Thank you so very much.

Pro machinist here, I would've recommended a 45° chamfer mill to do the tenderizing section of the hammer. Your DOC was great though! Reach out to the machining community once in a while! We move metal too ya know lmao

Have you ever heard of "Pittsburgh rare"? Steelworkers in Pittsburgh, PA used to use the blast furnaces to sear their steaks. The inside of the blast furnace would be over 2,000 F meaning that even the outside would be hot enough that is was totally sterile. So they would toss a steak on the side of the furnace, let it sit for a couple seconds, then flip it over. The outside would be almost charred but the inside would be rare, hence the name Pittsburgh rare.
