I find it kinda sad, wasted metal that oxidises because we can't forge in the right environment. I really enjoy hand forging but the amount of wasted material especially in Damascus blades is kinda amazing. Think it may even have been Alex who did a super densely layered one and he lost loads in the forging process, let alone final grinding. Would be interesting to know how much of the fallen scraps get recycled.
