Did you know that the famous philosopher Lao-Tzi never once said “Thanks” in his entire life! And he had an excellent reason, because he didn’t speak english.

Your game looks absolutely brilliant and I look forward to buying it. Please make sure the dialogue text is bold and clear. A lot of games have impossible to read tiny text. Due to the Playdate screen being so small, tiny or thin text is a visual limitation. Thanks for your dev diary. It’s highly detailed and very inspiring.
@bumbleborn11 ай бұрын
That's so nice of you to say! I will definitely try, it's a little on the small side, but I'm gonna do a pass where I rework the font as needed and I'll probably add an option for larger text if I can get around to it! Thanks for watching :D

Thanks, I appreciate it! Yeah, quite a lot haha, I did a big shoutout in the first vid but I'm also putting the developing series at the top of the references in the description for all of these vlogs cause it's so good and I lean on it a lot, first time trying this so it helps to follow a fairly established style for a bit :D

I really enjoyed your breakdown of locks and keys. They're such an important part of game design. So many systems use the lock and key dichotomy that's just been cleverly disguised. This is a novel way of approaching a bite-sized metroidvania and it seems like you picked the perfect console. I winced a bit upon seeing you were trying to make a small metroidvania in a short amount of time. Those never seem to pan out, and when they go up on Steam, players complain about the game being too short or lacking depth. I think you've found a great solution to scope and to finding a dedicated audience that will better understand your limitations.
@bumbleborn11 ай бұрын
Thanks for such a thoughtful comment! I didn't know if anyone would like it since it's my first time trying to be convey my design thoughts like this, so this was really nice to read! Yeah, I get what you mean, when players approach metroidvanias they do expect a lot out of it, I know I do as a player. So a 2 - 3 hour game would make a lot of people upset, hopefully if I do port it to steam later on I can either add more or I'll have enough awareness about the game that it doesn't surprise anyone that it's small.

Thanks Marcus, that's really nice to hear! Scoping has always been an issue for me so I reckon making the project super small means that any scope creep should still be manageable.

I really like that there's finally some KZbinr gamedev using ldtk and telling about it. It's specially the best for metroidvanias and I am also currently using it to create mine. Also another common thing between use is Aseprite 👏

Oh for sure, Squid God did a really good job getting the word out but it would be great to see it used more and more, it's crazy that it's free! Nice, Aseprite is just as excellent!!

This Playdate system, is there like a physical feedback to when you crank it? Like a tick or like something you can hold at a certain position like a 3 o' clock position?
@bumbleborn11 ай бұрын
There's not exactly feedback but it is smooth to spin it whilst remaining fixed when you let go and it's very easy to map it to in game mechanics.
