Such a beautiful gown! (and your butterfly accented hair!) You look so crisp & icy in a way that is more magical than actually cold. That probably makes no sense. Oh well. Love your stomacher solution. When in doubt, Ruffles! That would definitely be a logo on a shirt if you ever did merch.

I know how frustrating it is when you are working on a project you are excited about and suddenly you hit such a devastating bump in the road. And it is really bad in the moment but to be honest, seeing you struggle and overcome with the same things I do when sewing, like things suddenly fitting weird or turning out not the way you wanted, it really inspires and motivates me! So thank you, for not giving up on this project, I loved watching every second of it and it really helps (in probably not even intended ways, but oh well) Thanks ^^

I think one of my favorite things you do is adding details such as butterflies, spiders, beetle wings, glove buttons, fish pockets, batwings, bows, beads, ribbons, sunflowers, ships, antlers, birds and whatever else strikes all of our fancy. It's one of the things that set you apart from others! Of course watching the entire process is great learning fun!

Just this morning my pastor was regaling us with an anecdote that when Frito-Lay's feedback-readers come across a note saying that Cheetos or Nachos are too cheesy, they just laugh & throw out the note. Same principle here. "Too many ruffles"? hahahaha oh, you poor naive soul, you. As long as one can tell that it's ruffles, more would be just fine!

@jenniferjames49205 жыл бұрын
This dress is GORGEOUS! You should be really proud of yourself. If you're having trouble with puckering at the seams I would recommend pressing the taffeta before flatlining and hand basting the two fabrics together before you seam the pieces together, then pressing again. It may also be helpful to flatline the pieces over a curve (I've used a 6" wide PVC pipe covered in batting+muslin) Historical bodices are so curved around the body that it's helpful to mimic that curve while flatlining. (an orange peel is bigger than the orange) Pressing at every step is critical, but you also want to make sure your pressing with the grain so you don't distort the fabric and cause more puckering. The reason for the fit issues might have been top stitching the pieces together if you accidentally folded over more than you meant to. If you have an 8 piece bodice, loosing even an 1/8" or 1/16" at each seam can cause fit issues. I often leave more seam allowance at the center back and side seams so I can adjust the fit after a fabric fitting. Sorry this became such a long post, I make costumes for broadway and wanted to share some of the techniques we use in professional shops.

Wow so beautiful! Like a wedding cake. I can understand your feeling that the bodice and sleeves might be a bit busy with butterflies and ruffles, but I think with the large mass of the skirt it compliments the overall look. I love it!

I think it turned out beautiful, I have nearly the same green fabric at home, even the same color and I used it for several garments, every single one of it turned into a piece I absolutely hate, because there are major flaws. So if I imagine you are doing a whole dress and such a tight bodice with is just mind-blowing and amazing.

Beautiful. Don't be too hard on yourself. If you take a good look at paintings and pictures in that timeframe, you will see that at that time 'more was more'!. They were not holding back on embellisments. It was a time that tremendous amounts of time and effort were spent on one's costume (and hair, and face!). Bows, and flowers and ruffles were generously used. So, inadvertently, you have found the spirit of that time. Be proud of yourself.
