My friend brought me to a secret bar downtown they're on the mailing list for, and when I walked through the door, I was pleasantly surprised that it was this same bar, and Trever was bartending! Awesome dude, but if you end up at *this bar*, my dude at the bar, Justin, showed me a world of martini's I never knew. Just bummed I didn't see Brian and Jason there hahaha!

The Modern Rogue It totally was! Still hoping to get to the filming of SS or MR one of these days to meet you guys, been trying for the last few years. I follow Brian on twitter when he said to do so in order to find out about filming dates, but it's just a bunch of tweets about fallout and replies to fans, which no complaints, but I always miss the film dates! Must be vigilant in the future, I suppose.

Considering the Negroni is my favorite cocktail, I feel obliged to make a note this isn't a representation. The history is pretty spot on, and the bartender for the most part put it together correctly, but should probably mention both the absinthe rinse and the lemon peel as opposed to orange is an unusual and custom way to put it together. The elements for a solid classic Negroni are equal parts (generally 1 oz each) Campari, dry gin, and sweet vermouth, on the rocks, with an orange peel garnish, possibly flamed for both presentation and minor aroma difference which may or may not actually affect the lasting scent and flavor. The classic Negroni also calls for an old fashioned glass, and not a coupe glass, though on a personal note I agree that a coupe glass makes more sense when served shaken and not on the rocks. Chilling the glass while not an element of the classic Negroni, is more for the sake of personal preference. Some claim to taste more with a lesser cooled cocktail, and or a less diluted cocktail, while others say the recipe and ratio for the Negroni accounts for the ratio of dilution. While the lemon peel and absinthe rinse make for an interesting twist, those cannot be argued as a part of the classic Negroni. Your tastes are your tastes, if you want to throw in a twist, power to you! But, note that if your tastes introduce a change to the IBA standard you should probably mention your prepared cocktail isn't standard or traditional. The folks of the Modern Rogue, they aren't experts, and they do not pretend to be. Their assessments and conclusions are based on what they have heard, and what they experience.

Kendall Mayfield Agree 100%. Negroni should be built in a rocks glass and doesn't call for absinthe.

Well he said he said that in recipe it is orange but he likes lemon because he thinks it gives the drink more balance.

You beat me to it, that drink is probably really good, it just isn't the original.

Spot on my friend, the classic is precisely that and if u change it u shouldn't be calling it negroni..... i like what they did though but i would name it revisited negroni.... chapeau to u mg friend...

I was happy that the bartender pointed out that the lemon was not traditional, but I almost yelled at the screen when he threw a French Pernod rinse in without a non traditional disclosure as well.

From a bartenders perspective, i must say that i completely love how you respect the cocktails and describe them from your heart and palette(??) instead of going on about how good it is like any other channels on YT. I think the only other channel i appreciate except from TMR would be bonneville(??). Good day to you sirs, may your day do you well.

I'm italian and no one here uses absinthe or this type of glass to make a Negroni(here it is very very common, if you walk along a street at 6 p.m.,during the "aperitivo" time, you'll certainly see someone drinking it, and I love it too) but it seems even so delicious, I'll try.
@lochagosachilles82215 жыл бұрын
And I'm English, you're spot on. Absinthe? Wtf? The glass? APERTIF what??? They cannot even pronounce the French equivalent correctly. Why call it an APERTIF? You mean an Aperitif? But it's an Aperitivo, being Italian and all. Seppos. Cut me and I bleed Campari spritz and Negroni :)
@mattlm648 жыл бұрын
This is my favourite cocktail, though I would forgo the absinthe and use equal parts gin, vermouth and campari. Instead of an orange peel I like to use an orange wedge. I finish the drink by eating the orange which has been soaked in alcohol. I also created a variation on the drink with dry white vermouth (vermouth bianco) and scotch whisky instead of the gin. I drank about 7 of those one night, and the glasses were quite big. I wasn't feeling particularly well afterwards.

I love Campari! I like my beers bitter, but my cocktails sweet! Can you make an episode about weird shots or something? I think that could be really interesting. For example: -Baby Guinness: One shot glass of Kahlua with a bit of Baileys on top to make it look like a pint of Guinness -Alien brain hemorrage: fill a shot glass halfway with peach schnapps. Gently pour Bailey’s Irish Cream on top. After the shot is almost full, carefully add a small amount of blue curacao. After it settles, add a small splash (or a few drops) of grenadine syrup -Gas mask: a shot glass filled with gold strike at room temp, light it and place a big glass over it untill the flame dies. Tilt the glass and suck the air out of it with a straw, hold your breath and take the shot before you exhale. I really enjoy your content, thanks for everything
