Great work. Plus here's a couple of tips from a (now old and) very experienced wood worker. 1. Add a 90 degree cross piece underneath and at the beginning of your track board. Always quicker. 2. Leave your track board sticking out the other side of your fence for clamping (hand spring clamps are enough) as well as a 45 degree guide (cutting with saw at 45 degrees). 3. Trim the abrasive paper a little further, even micro granules will dull your blade. I've added these refinements after decades of using this kind of system. Also, an 8 foot version for large panel board can be helpful too. I've usually kept both in the workshop.

The simplest design I've seen yet works great, great idea to use a sandpaper backing to provide grip, well done.

For goodness sake, use a push stick when using that circular saw! It takes a small lapse of concentration or a moments slip to lose fingers/thumb (@27secs). I have been working in wood for well over sixty years and the most precious and valuable item in the workshop is yourself. Keep safe and thank you for posting.

i just built one. Never so easy for me to using a circular saw. Before I was scared to use it and afraid to cut my finger and never can made it straight cut. Now I did. Thank u so much for this design easy and simple. As female, I love it.

Great idea and I made mine today. Instead of sandpaper, I put small drops of clear silicone on the bottom and it works great. I also bring two spring clamps with me. I plan to keep it in my truck to use to break down plywood I buy at Lowes in the parking lot. Cool idea.

That's a very interesting idea with the sandpaper; I'll have to try it. I have used a variation of this for 40 years. I use 1/4" fir plywood for the base (no need to go thicker), and a narrow strip of the same 1/4" ply for the guide. I never clamp the guide; because the good side of the wood is face down for a clean cut, I use two 3/4" nails to secure the guide, which when done I loosen, leaving the small nails in the guide for next time. Works very well.

Hi,thanks for the comment.dabblign with making my own guide for my Makita circular saw as well.probpem with this is I'm concerned the 100grit sandpaper might scuff the material I am working on....what's your thoughts?

@@conradpaul6100 I thought that too. Maybe some higher grit automotive sandpaper might be better? 300+ grit?
