This is the most honest "all you need is this" instructional on KZbin. Once the glitz and glam videos wear out every viewer, THIS is the kind of stuff they should and will be watching, when they evolve. I'm betting this dude is 10x happier than 99% of all millionaires. I'll even wager that it's possible he IS that 1% millionaire himself, and would never change or brag on it. Go man.

I'm a redneck Hoosier that can't spend money on something I can figure out how to do with my hands. I 100% agree with you on the instructional videos. I really appreciate the comments and taking the time to leave it and watch the video. I have never begged for subscribers. I was floor when I broke a hundred, lol. The next one is a log cabin wall repair... It sucks. But, thank you again , I'm very flattered with your post.

Came out decent for not having fancy lathes and other machines. 50 years ago my then teenage brother made a gun stock and drilled thru the side after he had fitted it up to metal . He tossed it aside somewhere in the shop and forgot about it then remade one and it came out great . We are from a Tennessee family with a history of machinist, blacksmiths , plumbers and Iron Workers . We build stuff until we get it right. Funny thing was a couple years ago we stumbled upon the old dusty ruined stock of 50 years ago , had a great laugh and good talk about the old days .I like that poor man’s slide lathe you made there , pretty good idea . CHEERS !

Not bad. Looks good. Give you a hint. A stanley shaper really cuts down on the work when youre rough shaping. It actually slices the wood like a cheese shredder. When you start getting close finish with the rasp and and scrapers or sand paper. That stock looks good.

You done a pretty good job on fitting that thing and it looks pretty dang good. I've got an old Iver Johnson I guess it's around the turn of the century and my son and I went out in the woods found and old falling cherry and cut the pieces off we thought we needed. I'm very proud of my son because all he had was a couple of wood rasps and 2 chisels and he brought that thing right back to where it was great, all the fit-and-finish was this was a little off but not that much it looks really good except for the hole and he done the same thing that you did but before stopping he ran it out the side so I turned it around and went from the gun end of it and met the two holes up and we just left the hole in the side but he also done fore stock and I was very proud of him he fitted things up pretty dad gone good for never doing it and to tell you the truth I had him start with an axe to split out the boards and go from there with a draw knife. The only thing mechanical we used was the drill to drill the hole. I still have that old shotgun there's a long story that goes with it but I'm not going to tell that because this is long enough. Thanks for showing this it brought back the good memories of my son making his first butt stock and fore stock

It makes my day to read this . There's no measure for the satisfaction you get when you finish a project that you had very little to no idea how to do, and it turns out . I have had no formal training. It's all been best guess and see where it goes . God blessed me with a Dad that taught me not to fear the unknown and always learn from the mistakes congratulations to you and your son on a job done. I applaud you taking that time with him.

Excellent job my friend ! It looks just like the old one but new. Have you ever considered making a whole gun ? I mean the internals and all , lock , hammer , barrel and all the furniture. Of course it would be a black powder gun if you made the lock. Either a flint lock or percussion.

Thank you, I am currently waiting for a piece of Walnut to cure so I can make a black powder stock. I once made a prop flintlock for the local civic theater.... it was a total blast. I am finding nothing but disappointment when I try to find gun parts for the black powder project. I might have no choice , but to hand forge everything . I like to think I could elevate my skill sets to such a challenge. Thank you again.
