Nice one, some good improvements on mine. I use rawhide from dog chew toys, not really having access to natural hides these days, although I have used the hides from roadkill roe deer ( the rest was delicious!) I haven't thought of serving them before, and I've just used a bowline for the loops. I like your way better, but I can't find a source of sinew anywhere. You can make a thong or strap cutter from a notched stick with a flint chip or a Stanley blade wedged into a split it cuts from the centre of your hide outwards, at a consistent width very quickly and easily. Thanks for posting, now I need some sinew 👍

Hi, Andy. Excellent suggestion for the use of the skin. Here in my area the squirrels are very small, but I will try with rabbit fur. Thanks Andy For another great video.
@ClanGunnBushcraft

Thanks Johnny, and your welcome brotha. Rabbit hides will work well, just make your strips a few mill thicker, as their hides are slightly thinner than squirrels. 9mm should cope with up to a 100 lb draw weight bow. Cheers

Thanks for the knowledge Andy! I love your channel and watching your videos and would love to have a camp like yours if there was somewhere around to have it. I wonder if I can pick your brain a bit? Can you tell me how scopes hold up on your Stoeger? I have a RWS 460 Magnum that runs about the same FPE as yours and am having problems with it killing scopes. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!!
@ClanGunnBushcraft
@ClanGunnBushcraft 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ralph, muchly appreciated brotha. Iv had the same problems with scopes on my springers in the past. Snapped many a cross hairs. My Stoeger's has had a Nikko Mountmaster 3-9 x 40 on it for a few years now. It's a pretty cheap / mid priced scope, but it's solid! Iv slipped down banks, had it clunking around on my rucksack and dropped it half a dozen times and it still works perfect. My Stoeger is upgraded and slightly smoother than standard, but it's still got a kick to it. I'd defantly recommend a mountmaster if your looking for a new scope. Especially for the price. You can get better magnifications. Just had a ganders on ebay and my ones like £35 nowadays. The 4-12x50 is around £50. Take care bro and happy hunting 🐇
@Ralphieisthegreatest
@Ralphieisthegreatest 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info Andy! I actually have purchased a Stoeger like yours only in synthetic stock. I love it! The scope that comes with that model is not very good so I put on a Vortex 2x7x40 that they told me will handle springers so I guess we will see. The rifle is excellent for the money and is very accurate. Thanks for sharing mate!
@ClanGunnBushcraft
@ClanGunnBushcraft 6 жыл бұрын
A friend of mine has the synthetic stocked Stoeger, it's nice mate, saves having to worry about dingin the wood. He also got the standard scope and it's terrible. We once did some target practace in his 50m long chicken shed. I put 10 pellets down it with mine and blew out the middle of the target. Did the same with his and didn't hit the target once haha. That's a great scope youve got. Should defo take the recoil. The rifle gets even better once you've broken it in and put 500+ pellets through it. Iv got some nice springers, some quiet pricey once like my BSA Lightning xl se in my other video's, but my Stoeger is my favorite by far. Accurate and hits hard. Unlike most springers, the mainspring isn't compressed when it's not cocked! Means you can fully strip it down out in the field without a spring compressor. In most other guns, removing the mainspring without a compressor is very dangerous. Peeps have been killed doing this. Crackin little rifle. Cheers bud

Superb video! Few questions. 1. Do the strings fuse themselves? Would they uncoil later on? 2. Have you ever tried 2 or 3 or more ply strings? If I want a string of specific diameter, would using sandpaper to trim them hamper the performance?
@ClanGunnBushcraft
@ClanGunnBushcraft 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks bro and sorry for the late reply... 1. The strings do fuse together. There twisted while there still wet and stick together. Once dry it's hard to unwind them, but if you soak them in water for 10 minutes, they'll unwind. It's why it's best to wax the string after. If you got caught out in the rain, it could weaken the string until it dries out again. 2. No, don't sand it down after. It'll damage the string. Different animal raw hides will be thicker than others. Squirrels are good because their hides are thicker than other small game like Rabbits. In this video I make a 3 ply string. Each ply is 7mm thick. This will support a 100lb+ bow. If your bows say, 50,60,70lb you could make do with a 2 ply string. That would get you a smaller diameter. The thinner the string, the faster it shoots. Hope that helps and thanks for watching.

I didnt see how you put the three strands together, did you braid and then twist?
@ClanGunnBushcraft
@ClanGunnBushcraft 6 жыл бұрын
No, I didn't braid them. I tie one end of the three strands on to an anchor point (tree branch). And the other to a stick. The three strands are still wet and as I twist the stick, the three strands twist and bind together. I twist the string until it starts to hoop / kink up. I then unwind the hoop, push the stick into the ground and allow the string to fully dry. Once it's dry, it won't untwist. Thanks for watching and I hope that makes sense?

can it be done with rabbits?
@ClanGunnBushcraft
@ClanGunnBushcraft 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, you can use rabbit, but their hides are thinner than squirrel. I think I recommend 3 x 7mm thick strips with the squirrel hides. I would make them 10mm, or add an extra strip when using rabbit hides. Thanks for watching buddy
