Years ago, (89?) Hurricane Hugo hit SC - flooded Charleston and knocked over a *lot* of trees there. Among them ancient live oaks. Fast forward to 2006 and a visit to Mystic Seaport in Connecticut. And what do I see there? Live oak branches drying and just barely ready.. They picked them up virtually for free during the clean up. And with those long bent arms they are just so excellent for making some weird shaped wooden ship parts. So whenever I see someone working with live oak, I think of that. You have made a wonderful instrument there. Good job!

What a great project, what you have made is beyond most peoples capabilities, well done! However, I believe it should be called a try square-to try the wood you are working to see if it is anywhere near square. I don't see where a tri square comes in at all in the description, there is nothing in the tool that suggests that there are three of anything. except that in my try square which is a Moore & Wright model it has three rivets, with a steel blade and a brass face in the included 90° angle.
@WoodByWright5 жыл бұрын
Thanks. As to try or tri, depends on Where you are much like the difference between a rabbet and a rebate, or many many other terms of woodworking have completely different names depending upon where you are. It's actually really fun subject to study.
@TheDGr10015 жыл бұрын
@@WoodByWright Thanks for your reply, you are right,it depends where you are. I was born and raised in England and now live in South West France and we-the English-say 'rebate' and 'try' it's just being English I suppose. I wish you all the best in all your endeavours.

@@WoodByWright I was trying to be mean to you about your pronunciation of Uri’s name, but clearly it backfired, and now I look stupid. I’m not sure about the rules - does this mean we have to meet at first light for a duel, in which we sprinkle sawdust in each other’s eyes?
@ryanstieglitz777 Жыл бұрын
Comment down below! Beautiful square. Absolutely fantastic
@SpatialGuy775 жыл бұрын
I assume you were checking square at the end with your scribing... you don’t flip the board and the square, you just scribe a line, flip your square over along the axis of the blade then scribe again. If the lines aren’t perfectly coincident or parallel, your square is rooted - best to do that test before that proxy epoxy dries. Nice little square though. Didn’t the other one you had at the start have a brass face on the wood?? Cheers
@WoodByWright5 жыл бұрын
corect. I also flip the board as it is an easier grip to keep the beam of the square to the left. I have a couple videos on squaring it up. I checked it before glue up with another known square as it is hard to do it ont he board with the clamp on. id if adjustments need to be made that is easy enough.
