Awesome idea!!! last year on the trail I ran into a young female that had a $2 Poncho(body and pack) from the dollar store. After walking five miles through a driving rain storm we all got to the shelter. She was the only one that was still dry, along with her backpack! so much for the high-dollar rain suits. you found a great place to save money!!!

Fashionable :-) I just got done making a Tyvek Bivy Bag (Im worried about being cold too) I will tell you from experience the Tyvek is what saved my frozen bottom last year - this Florida Girl took off on the trail with a 70 degreee bag - I really hadn't put any thought into the fact that the nights would be 50 easy and we did see 32 a couple times - Tyvek Rules! Plus you can use it to sit on like a tarp. And lastly, it will last forever just never put it in the dryer - washer cool - dryer bad!

Thanks for posting this. I almost have completed my tyvek footprint for my tent. Just getting the edges pressed down for the glue. I also plan to make a rain skirt too and a tarp/emergency shelter/temperature wall for the shelters. 5 months and counting for my 30 day Quebec IAT hike.

That's awesome! You're going from Springer to Quebec?

Hiker Feet Well I am hiking the Quebec section of the IAT this fall but in 2018, I will continue onwards from the AT to the IAT and go to the border of NB and Quebec. I will then take a bus home to Quebec from Matapedia.

So fantastic! And with it fitting like a sarong, it probably fits and yields to movement better. I think so linearly, that the sarong fit would not have occured to me. Awesome and thank you!

I did the same thing. But with the little spot velcro stick ons. Yours fits a lot better than mine. But I got some tyvek free, so I can keep working on it.

I am worried that the velcro won't work. I just worry about every little detail nowadays. Lol!

I saw you were doing a lot of "thinking", aka, worrying. If I was in your shoes, I wouldn't be able to sleep at night. The good thing is you can pick up more tyvec at a hardware and velcro is sold just about anywhere. There is a quilters club that meets where I work, and I'm going to ask them for help on mine. I tried to put pleats in it using duct tape, and it didn't turn out just like I had planned. I bet there is a YT video showing how to do it, but I did mine late at night at my camp. Good luck on your hike. I'm pulling for you.

Hope it works out for you on the AT. You should have plenty of opportunity to test it out in the mountains in Washington. My family lives in Bellingham and I've had many days of rain while visiting them but also some great days hiking in the cascades. Hope you've been able to take advantage of some of the great hikes available while you've lived there.

It is very high in the front. It is layered so the rain will get under the front flap very high up ( it should be layered like roof shingles, the bottom layer goes under the top layer so water sheds, not gets behind... But a longer than knee length in the front would be good for sitting down in the rain.

Great Idea, how did it work out?

Looks good. Will it be able to do double duty as your ground sheet?
@HikerFeet8 жыл бұрын
Well, it's a little too small for my entire tent. Maybe a footprint.
