Making a visit to one of the iconic sites on the Sideia Island in the Bwanabwana Rural Local Level Government of Samarai Murua District in Milne Bay Province is a revival of memories so many years ago, when I was just a young boy.
Today was that time when I set foot in the now abandoned old Sideia Catholic Mission Sawmill site and see the remains of the old Sawmill site with remains of the Sawmill Carriage cement and the Sawdust heap.
The Sideia Catholic Mission Sawmill was one of the first sawmills established in Milne Bay Province and had supplied the timber supply needs during the colonial times.
Also, seeing the now deteriorated Jetty/Wharf with just the posts is sad, but it was the reality.
For those who have visited the place sometimes back or either had worked there or bought some sawn timbers from there, would recall and yes I know, brings back sad memories.
Hope you will enjoy the viewing..
