Hello Paul As you can see, I was waiting for the third part of this series. Congratulations and thanks!!! I never thought to use a squared tube instead a circular one... it was an amazing idea. I was using a plastic straw, but it was too thin. I'm going to look for a tube like yours. On the other hand, something I did to give a little more weight to the lure, was to set a fixed bigger ball bearing at the front, before to set the magnet, and then, I put the tubular section with the moving balls bearing... It worked very well. The lure fly quite well and swims very good. I'm going to change the thin plastic straw with a thicker tube, in order to give more protection to the wood walls. I will stay alert for your new videos.... perhaps, someday I might encourage myself to make a video doing my own Balsa lures... Paul, thank you for sharing your tips, let's keep in touch.

I found this tube by chance at an art shop but it is a common item at model making suppliers and made by plastruct, it was also very cheap they make a round tube out of the same stuff. I did want to go a bit further and do something pvc foam, but it will have to wait for another video. I have also found before that keeping some of the weight near the head also balances the lure in flight a little better. Any time you fancy pointing a camera at the lures your making i'll be your first subscriber. Thanks

***** Hola Paul... Even though I do not have big hobby or art shops here in Lima, I will visit the large ones to see whether I find somekind of tubes and other materials. I often get my lures' making stuffs when I travel to the USA or buying them in Internet. Paul, I humbly invite you visit to my channel here in youtube to see what I do... At your side, I am just a quite beginner and I will try to improve my work. I really love it. I feel a huge pleasure everytime I catch a fish with my own spoonflies, jigs and lures. Have a great week

I have thought about doing a behind the scenes video, but part of me is a little embarrassed about the equipment i am using, the underwater footage in this video came from and old camera inside a £1 lunch box with some perspex stuck to the front and my slider is rigged up to motor from a broken cordless drill. You do not want to see what i am doing with swivel chairs. The "making off", might be something to show if i did a very short project and then showed how it was all brought together, i will have to think about it some more, thanks and glad you are enjoying them.

Paul, unbelievable quality, as usual. I still haven't found the right material I've looked for to create a "true mirror" for a bodied lure. (I really want a black mirrored finish as well). I'm hoping if you ever find a product, you would post the info, as well as I would. I might be chasing a pipe dream, but this idea of mine will not let me rest!? anyways, your post's are certainly appreciated, as I've learned so much from you! regards. Chris

great video again paul and a fitting finish to the weigh shifting lure series. how about for the evolution stage for this kind of lure you could try and figure out how to add a rattle chamber there too.
@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman
@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman 10 жыл бұрын
SolarBaits It makes a good rattle which surprised me as the weights don't have that much room to move , on the last piece of underwater video i left the sound on. I think next it need some kind of face.
@SolarfallBaits
@SolarfallBaits 10 жыл бұрын
***** i'm thinking the sound in the video comes from the split rings and the hooks them selfs hitting the lure body. the lake salmon/trout anglers here that troll for them have been using lures that make a certain pitch when the hooks hit the body, if i remember correctly the optimum pitch was 11hrz.
@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman
@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman 10 жыл бұрын
no, it was noisy as hell before i put the hooks on, so much so my wife said "can you stop ************ rattling that thing" so i went to the park to play with the water
@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman
@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman 10 жыл бұрын
SolarBaits Just messing with the equalizer on the editing software the rattle covers a range of frequencies between 1khz and about 15khz peaking towards the middle. I suppose with some simple electronics you could just generate and 11khz pulse or tune your spoon. Or if you had electronics on board your lure you could just test out different music styles, i think reggae for pike but i am guessing Finish pike prefer Death Metal.

I would not have expected these inline BB's stuck to the magnets to rattle as much as I could hear in the final underwater sequence , Paul , ......I'm really wondering , how exactly this sound is generated , as the BB's should stick together and the sideward play inside of the square plastic tubing also is very small , ...does not sound like steel against plastic but steel on steel , anyway ? Great and extremely well edited video again , .....greetings , Dieter
@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman
@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman 10 жыл бұрын
They ball bearings just have under half a millimeter of play, but i think hitting the plastic makes a sharper sound than just hitting balsa, also i have a feel the wood acts like a soundboard in the same way clockwork musical barrels don't; make much sound until they are placed on wood. This was filmed about ten inches if front of a compact camera in a modified sandwich box and the sound has not been altered in any way, i just thought i would play it instead of over dubbing, but it might be interesting to go and try it with some other lures. Thanks Dieter
@61diemai
@61diemai 10 жыл бұрын
***** That very small play inside of the square tubing is what is puzzling me most , the BB's do lack a certain distance of a run-up to hit the inner tubing walls with enough force to generate such a fairly loud noise , also the cadence of the single clicks in relation to the frequency of wobble does not seem to match that very small distance that the BB's could move sidewards ! And it would be hardly possible , that the BB's would be hitting one another by moving forward and backward parallel to the lure's center axis , as the lure rocks and wobbles towards either side only . I aggree to your other statements regarding different sounds generated by BB's hitting harder or softer materials , but Imust admit , that this lure of yours remains a mystery to me and shatters all of my thoughts and experiences about lure rattles(though your design surely is not intended to function as a rattle , but a long cast system in first place , I suppose ?). Greetz , Dieter

I LOVE these videos!!! I c that you dont use epoxy in these videos to glue you lures together, do you find super glue works just as fine? Great Video :)
@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman
@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman 10 жыл бұрын
Michael Loft I have never had problem using superglue for gluing internal faces, and when i have opened lures up a gain i found the joints are far stronger than the wood. So in these veneered lures it is almost like having another four very tough laminates. The draw backs are that it goes off very fast so if i put something in the wrong place it is staying there. Some lure builders use it to seal the lures as well before painting, but it is not something i have tried. Thanks

Hello Paul, I've just discovered your videos and they are amazing. You give us all very thorough and informative lessons in lure making and you're filming them great. I have just one remark if you allow me. Your intonation in most of the videos is making me want to scream and throw heavy things. I am 100% sure this is not the normal way you talk to people otherwise you would not have survived so long. I don't know why you're taking like this, probably you're afraid people won't understand your accent or something, but i can assure you that here kzbin.info/www/bejne/aXiqeIV_mdSYopo for example where you talk normally you are perfectly understandable and sound just perfect. Please don't take my comment as an offence as it is not at all intended to be one. Keep up your great work. I really appreciate it.

+mustak324 I am not offended its great to have honest feedback, I think one of the hardest things about videos is trying to find a voice, oddly the video you highlighted is not how i normally talk either but it is a little less constrained than the voice overs. I think when I look back over the videos,some of the voice overs have gone far too much towards the sound of a bedtime story rather than getting over the information i need to with some clarity. Getting information in the fewest possible words so the video doesn't go on for an hour is a big task and that often leads me down that route. Editing the videos is also a lot about playing with time, and making decisions about how i say things, do i say them with sound, with an image, with a voice over, that is something i am still learning. With the next video I am working on the plan is the mix it up and talk to the camera in 'normal' voice so i am in shot and with the voice overs to give other information, this has been a huge learning curve to that, i am not sure i have nailed and in some place the sound is bit rattling. Despite feedback good or bad I understand that I am not going to please all the people all the time, and i do get positive comments that my voice is helping to stem the tide of insomnia. cheers the new video should be out by the end of the week.

+Paul Adams (The Handmade Fisherman), thanks a lot for the reply and for the understanding. I guess there is a whole universe i don't know a tiny bit about, related to video editing and voice overs.
