1:24 Now that you mention it, everyone here should be aware of what James Bruton is doing across the pond. Simply look up James from X-Robots. He has a working BB-8 in progress, building a Hulk Buster and has plans to build a working Ultron. 3-D printing enthusiasts will enjoy his printed working R-6 droid. I think he has free builders club plans available too. Not to mention, he found a way to 3D-Print the large sphere and drive mechanism. Tell him The Sqoou sent you and says "Hi."

Just a thought, since you're unfamiliar with gyros...mount the gyro as close to either the top or the bottom as possible. The further away it is from the ball centerline, the more responsive it will be.

What it requires to get rid of the wobble is a more sophisticated controller, which requires learning a little bit about PID controllers. It's hard to do outside of a course, but doable.
@utub14737 жыл бұрын
Wow that’s awesome, nice job to the people who helped make that!

The drive could come from a maglev part-shere, say 1/4 the height, floating inside the main sphere. The latter would be lined in magnetic strips. The part-sphere could be as heavy as it's maglev system can support. It would be uncannily stable on an incline, when "parked". If Maglev is too much, hoover technology could provide the lift (smooth interface is key), while magnets would still take care of drive. On second thought perhaps the main sphere should be the active part, attracting or repelling the weight at the bottom.

@ 13:06 is he saying "clear shelf paper"? I couldn't quite make it out. Is this what we know as 'sticky backed plastic' here in the UK? Great job by the way your BB-8 looks amazing!
@stephenf.81866 жыл бұрын
Simon Nicol / Yes, clear, shelf adhesive [sticky back] plastic. Or as is in the art world of airbrushing, you can buy what is known as clear, or translucent, low-tack frisket film which is very thin but allows for precise cutting with an exacto blade. Can be placed, peeled, and reset when needed. If you can't afford a roll of frisket, the clear tacky-back shelf "paper" will do. Just make sure it's the low- tack type ~ Hope this helps.

Needs a single heavy centric drive wheel with 360° caster/yaw control of axle. Single drice wheel should be ringed by two teflon gyros spinning opposite directions 90° out from (perpendicular to) drive wheel. Wheel itself would act as balance weight. Caster control of drive wheel would steer by momentum of axle deviation. Mouse ball style weighted idle rollers should surround drive wheel at bottom. I could make this work perfectly, zero doubts. Would you like a drawing?

+Tim Woodacre (Phobos Anomaly) What? It's just more of the same garaged, if a fucking cash in, rehash sequel, it's the same type of uninspired movie as ghostbusters 2 and die hard 4 etc. It's not even a particularly good rehash, creed is far better in that category.
