Err not really, this build would allow me to connect a camera and AI to an Rpi inside the body, James's whilst awesome relies on magnets to hold the head on which means we need another power supply and processing unit to add cameras and rpi

To all the people talking about the other guy's BB8... Seriously? Why are you trying to bring someone up by putting another person down. "So and sos is way better!" "that other dude's moves" people seem to have missed the entire point... this is a STATIC replica. Mike has already make fully-moving versions. And I'm sure the other fellow appreciates you using his name to put this guy down even though you clearly know nothing about this guy's work.

Brendan Chambers what i meant is i knew people are going to mention J.Bruton whenever there are bb8 videos. I've seen it before, surely it will happen again in future vids.. M.Senna's bb8 isn't bad, he's better than anyone who hasn't build a bb8, that's for sure..
@PHeMoX8 жыл бұрын
+Brendan Chambers Actually, that's what happens when the fools over at Tested misrepresent facts. Burton's BB8 droids are all better than this one, even more impressive is how back then he didn't even quite know how the BB8 in the movie worked, yet he tried to make a moving one anyway.

Nice work on the elbow/servos mechanism. Still wanna see a fully funcional BB-8, though, if that's possible! I've seen James' (and commented on his channel, been following him for years now), but his isn't there yet. He convinced me on the necessity of the flywheel, but I don't really like that banana-shaped rail design, because it makes his BB-8 roll back and forth only, not in every direction, as (I believe) it should.

@GEONEgaming8 жыл бұрын
Why is everyone saying James Bruton's BB-8 is better? His fully painted MK 2 looks like pretty bad. And you can't compare his MK 3 yet, because it's not painted. It might look better when it's painted or it might look weird like his MK 2. If people are saying his is better because it moves, then they're forgetting that Mike made his version move, too.
@nopechucktesta95068 жыл бұрын
+GEONE I agree James Bruton's version is kinda shitty looking. His fully moving BB-8 is pretty cool, though. But not better than Mike's IMO.
@rogerjohnexperience8 жыл бұрын
It's not about how it looks (I have no problem with how xrobots' looks) it's about the functionality and the video series is about building and coding it not so much about the finished product.
@byeforever8 жыл бұрын
+GEONE I think it's a bit unfair to compare Mike and James' BB-8's as they cater to different audiences. Mike is super detail oriented and makes his replicas very screen accurate, where as James doesn't care much about accuracy as much as he does exploring the mechanics and solving problems. One thing I notice about Mike (and find kinda irritating), is that he is very secretive about his solutions. He even says so himself in this video. Granted, we did get a look inside this time, but he keeps his moving replica mechanics under wraps. James, on the other hand, walks us through his entire build and provides resources on his site for anyone who wants to build along with him. I find that super interesting even if his replicas aren't all that clean looking.
@Magmafrost138 жыл бұрын
Nobody is going to say that James's looks better. But functionally its way better, and its presented to us way better
@TheMikeSenna8 жыл бұрын
+elfurioso I get that people would like to see the insides of my driving one, but I'm on version 4 and they don't work well in my opinion. Too many people would buy parts and find out they spent money on a design that does not work. This is an actual issue with the BB8 Builders group right now. The members are buying parts on drives that are not tested and do not work. On the R2 side all my work has been tested and therefore all my designs are released to that club. There is no one in that club that has provided designs and let anyone who wants to copy and sell them as they like. I have done this. I constantly have people over to explain the R2 build. Until my design is solid, I simply do not like to release it. It's an art form to me, like a painting.

really wish I had access to a shop to make one of these, pretty sure from my research that I have an entirely new drive train idea that will likely be far more stable then any out there. An idea for cheaters: put this thing on normal wheels, make the shell frosted clear material and install pico projectors with wide angle lenses on the inside. That way you can project the illusion of a rolling sphere onto the static sphere. (Maybe with a darker material and high projection power you could even reduce the glowing apperiance.)
