For ripples, parent the empty to the fish(or any object). And move the empty in z axis until the end point of the empty just touches the top of your fish. This will save adding a lot of key frames.

I'm curious, now that I have made this. Is it hard to just add rain to this scene and make the ocean a canvas? I havent tested it yet cause I dont know how to do it, just know of the concept. But I have seen people do it on flat surfaces, and wanted to make something similar with this but perhaps it's hard to make it look good?! Not sure.

How to make the fish go following the circle like this? at 13:53
@SketchesForHumanity4 жыл бұрын
To make the fish follow the curve I just aligned the origins of the objects to be in the same position, and added a curve modifier to the fish. Then you just need to choose the correct axis for the deformation, and move (animate) the fish object along that axis.

Great tutorial, any advice on how I would go about making the water also semi-transparent? mixing the water shader with a transparent bsdf works but then I lose the reflections on the surface
@SketchesForHumanity4 жыл бұрын
If you just bring down the alpha value in the principled bsdf, and set the blend mode of the material to "alpha hashed", you should be able to retain the reflections while making the material partly transparent. You might need to increase the render samples, though, because the hashed alpha takes more samples to clear up.

'save to watch later' I've been meaning to learn blender all this time now but I can never get myself to start my own assignment. Any tips?
@SketchesForHumanity3 жыл бұрын
It's easy to get overwhelmed by the complexity, for sure! I'd say one important thing is to not go for too ambitious projects at first. Start really simple, and concentrate on one specific thing. Model a simple mug. Render a red, metallic suzanne. Animate a ball bouncing up and down. That sort of thing, until you start to have a basic understanding of modeling/animation/rendering/etc. Of course it's always better if you can come up with a somewhat simple idea that's actually interesting to you. Is it sculpting something you own? Making a meme for reddit? Christmas card for relatives? If you manage to get excited about some small project like that, you'll have the drive to go through it! And after you get a hang of the basic things, you'll surely already have a lot of ideas for more complex stuff you can start to make :)

@SketchesForHumanity4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I do have a powerful pc (i7 9700k, gtx2080s etc.). That being said there's a lot of room for optimization in this scene, without affecting the visual look too much. Lowering the ocean resolution, lowering the detail level of the noise textures, lowering the shadow resolution.. have you played around with those?

Im starting into 3d modeling and this video was really useful, I've been struggling with water and I'm gonna try to use that ripple effect to make the waterfalls ripples, any recommendation for it? still , thank you so much for the video 💜💜
@SketchesForHumanity4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! You could certainly use these ripple techniques in a waterfall also. Maybe strecth the noise texture in the z direction and drive it downwards, while also driving the w value (in the 4d noise tex)? You could model a "static" waterfall and add life to it with a displacement modifier + an animated texture, then add the final touch with these surface ripples. I'm sure you'll make a great looking waterfall :)
@NaChO255994 жыл бұрын
@@SketchesForHumanity oh wow thanks, I have to understand what you meant because idont really control that much the program, you mean yo model the "physical" form of the waterfall and then add the textures and some displacement over it?

I kinda cheated on that, just added some random noise on the xyz rotation axis', and then animated the z location by hand so that it somewhat follows the depth of the waves vertically. But it looks nice enough, so that's what matters :)
