@@mesiroy1234 yeah it doesn't taste good, but you get used to the taste and begin to like it after about a week. Not everything that is good for you tastes great. I wouldn't describe it as bitter, but more of a smokey flavor. I love it really. Once you get used to the taste you can find ways to make it taste better, but I would try to acquire The taste first.

In Brasil we say “é o amargo doce” something like bittersweet. But look: If you dont like strong ervas 🌿, just buy and drink another variation. Uruguaian yerbas are REALLY Strong, Canarias in a scale of 0 to 5 is 5 in all aspects. Flavor, bitterness, caffeine kick. On the flipside, ervas brasileiras (brasilian yerbas) are smooth, easy, but still delicious and give you that concentration boost…. Try out and search for whats best for you. Dont get used to just because “it is how it is”, try argentinian mates, brasilian mates, paraguaian mates (terere its cold but you can make it with hot water) try pura folha, moída-grossa, moída fina (only powder). Greener ones. Example: uruguaian yerbas are Dry as fuck, 12 months “resting”. Brasilian yerbas are Really fresh and green, thats why the packs come in vacuum they grow the yerba, and almost instantly pack it (ofc taking care of health measures). Some people just dont like stronger rested (repousados) mates. And that is fine! You are you. Be happy mateador 🧉 Edit: starting with those greener fresh yerbas helps you acquire the taste and get used to it. I always loved my mates brasileiros, but to me they are weak in flavor, lavados (washed the flavor wears out). Thats why when i went to urugay with a friend who lives there i tried their mate variation and loved the creamy strong and bold flavor of canarias and baldo

Couple of questions for anyone able to answer. Are you able to use cold water? How much mate are we supposed to use for one serving or is it just an eyeball type of thing? What’s the preferred mate brand to drink/start with? Does it have to be the process he does or can you just put in whatever mug you got at home? Thank you to anyone able to answer

Are you able to use cold water? - Yes of course, using hot water is traditional, but you can drink it cold, just let it sit a for a little longer than when using hot water so it fuses, up to your preferences tbh. You can even cold brew mate, it taste amazing for those who prefer less bitterness. Additional note: You can also try terere mate, it's a type of mate made for cold water. How much mate are we using? - Typically a half to 2/3 of the gourd. If that is too strong to you, try less and add more next time, but all and all it's your own preferences. What's the preferred mate to start with? - For one who would like to start lightly, Argentinian mate, which contains more stems and rough leaves than the fine-cut Uruguayan, is a good start. People often recommend Cruz De Malta and me either. Or if you want some diverse flavours (not too strong) and aroma, try Sbse, they have many flavours for you to choose. You can find out more on Reddit, people have a lot of recommendations there. Do you need soecialised tools? - Not necessarily. You need a cup (any cup is ok) and a straw with filter (a bombilla like in the video is ideal and not pricey at all, but if you don't have (or want) a bombilla, you can sort of DIY one by using tea bag filter (or anything like a piece of clean cloth) to cover your normal straw for filtration, or just use (or make) mate cocido (mate but in a tea bag). That's it, hope you'll have fun on the journey of a matero/mateador^^

I can't remember who tested it, but pre-heating your thermos with hot water before filling will keep the temperature longer. Not that I always remember to do that, or let the water sit around long enough to matter.

It all varies person to person. You're gonna have to experiment and see what works best for you. Ones with a lot of caffeine however are Uruguayan brands like Canarias

Wood gourds can crack. That's why curing it is recommended to prevent it. If it does crack, as long as it's not leaking, it's fine
