Just tried my first mate, I’m a black coffee drinker so I found that I actually prefer hotter water and a more bitter taste. It definitely doesn’t last as long as cooler water but I think I’ve firmly left coffee in the past.

Dude.. you definitely know your stuff.. Good on ya!!! Im from Argentina and i drink mate pretty much every day... i use the brand Taragüí. Sometimes i drink the ¨sin palo¨ which is just crushed leaves. Much stronger and better for taking on long business trips. Keep it up!

Great! Just a comment. The coil bombillas aren't used as a filter, the can be opened and cleaned easier. Also, there are some filters you can buy (in Argentina) to cover the bombilla and due to its physical properties it prevents the dust from being suck. I've just checked and there are some devices sold to specifically separate the dust from the yerba. I imagine you know, but Syrians and Lebanese are also heavy mate drinkers.

Nice mate, When i first handed it to my friends they completely moved the bombilla HAHA, even tho i told them not to. Nice using taragui, my personal favorites are Canarias, Rosamonte and Pipore (suave or sin palo) You should review them! They are nice, cheap, and easy to find - Mexican here, thanks!

Total n00b here, but I find I can build an acceptable mountain with Playadito (another course-cut Argentinian brand, for those not familiar with it) if I just let it steep initially for a while, and don't over-fill it. Then every time I drinking a pour, I grab some of the web leaves from the bottom with my spoon bombilla and use them as a kind of cement to hold the dry mountain in place -- that may be heresy, I just found it worked for me. ;) Been drinking yerba mate for a month now, and I really love it. Such a great boost and not harsh like coffee or energy drinks. P.S. Thanks for the videos and shorts, Darren. You're the sole reason I'm drinking mate today, so cheers!

Can only speak for myself, my body reacts way better on yerba mate compared to coffee. Energy drinks are terrible.

The caffeine in mate will definitely be much better than getting it from other sources. All in all, you'll probably end up with lower doses in practice because the caffeine spike in mate is much less yet arguably reaches the same high, and furthermore, it is more sustained.

Hello sir, I was curious if you still drink Water? Yerba Mate is highly refillable and can last for liters probably. So, do you finish the whole cup in a day or store it for later? If you drink the whole thing, do you still have space for Water?

Idk about him but personally it’s basically impossible to drink water and mate at the same time if your making full size gourds and drinking them alone

And yeah you finish it, if it’s in a calabash gourd or a wooden gourd then it can get mouldy if you don’t, and if it’s in any other kind it would taste weird so you finish it generally

What is your opinion on when the yerba gets stale? When visiting family in Latam I buy yerba on bulk and bring it to where I live. Usually some yerba have quite the life on a shelf until I come to drink it. Did you notice a big flavor change while storing yerba mate for a few months? Since I like to buy different brands to not get bored I cant do comparative tasting haha Appreciate the content ^^

Nunca se ponen rancias, mientras más tiempo tengan en reposo se ponen más dulces. Por eso las yerbas argentinas tienen mejor gama de sabores que las uruguayas que tienen un sabor muy crudo y verde. 😅

Im a chileno and yes the cup does tend to get mold, but dont worry, before adding anything rinse the cup in boiling water to clean and your good to go. Yes i personally add stevia to my mate , btw im drinking mate right now!!

No esta mal, de hecho bastante bien, pero si le pones esa cantidad de agua temperatura ambiente desde un comienzo el primer mate te va a salir frío. Una cosa es comenzar con el agua caliente pero que no queme la yerba y otra diferente es comenzar un mate con agua hirviendo y que finalmente se queme la yerba. Buen video

as an argentinian we drink it every day at every moment, when studying or working, on our free time, in the morining or night... literally every moment but not in those where you need both hands free, for us is not strong either also you can put sugar on it every 2 or 3 servings if you preffer ir sweeter. also when it is served in a mug as a tea is called "mate cocido" and it is also a very common thing to do. cheers
