How long can the bitter last. Apart from adult, can children and pregnant mothers take it
@magicalhoof74312 жыл бұрын
My children love these bitters and now ask for a refill for their own bottles. It will get rid of tummy aches quickly. I dont recommend this to pregnant mothers because of the emmenogogue herbs.

How long do the Bitters last? What are other natural preservatives if you know that I can add to longer the life of infusion. Thanks.
@vshakir6223 жыл бұрын
Keeping the bitters in a dark bottle (and out of direct sunlight - in a liquor cabinet, etc.)....they can last for years. Making bitters with organic ingredients, you wouldn't want to add any type of preservatives aside from the alcohol - which will keep just about any bacteria from growing in the bitters. If you want to go "crazy" you can cover the dark bottle with paper to prevent any light from getting into the bottle (think of Angostura bitters and how the paper label covers the entire bottle...even the neck. Cheers, and happy Bittering!

I wanna ask something. Why we add alcohol and keep it for 6 months? Does that go through fermentation process
@magicalhoof74313 жыл бұрын
Alcohol extracts the plant constituents, then it preserves them and when the alcohol tincture is ingested, the alcohol makes the nutrients more bioavailable because it goes straight to the liver and into the blood stream instead of the digestive system. These tinctures generally have a shelf life of 5-10 years.

Great way to save some money, thx for sharing! If I recall, made only orange simple syrup/angostura, whatever the difference is. It was good but I'm curious how it'd work with ginger. Probably even better, only for colder and longer nights. So an alcohol splash makes the bitter lasting longer right?
@magicalhoof74314 жыл бұрын
Of all the bitters I've made this recipe is my personal favorite. The alcohol tincture extends the shelf life and no need for refrigeration. I keep a bottle in my vehicle, at home and wherever I may need it if/when consuming any meals.

You can use glycerine with the "sealed simmer method" YOu an make a dry powder blend and then make fresh tea. If you used straight water, the mix would mold so you have to make fresh cups.

Can this be produced in commercial quantity? If so, how can the 3-6 weeks be shortened or the fermentation process be fastened?
@magicalhoof74314 жыл бұрын
Urban Moonshine is a small company which started off making bitters and has become a big commercial producer of bitters and other things. There is really no way to quicken the process of extraction of the nutrients for this recipe, since alcohol extraction is ideal for bitters. One could use vegetable glycerine in the sealed simmer method, which is very quick, but the sweetness of the vegetable glycerine may defeat the purpose of the bitters. Perhaps you could blend the alcohol and ingredients for about 10 minutes in a high speed blender like a VitaMix, and then let it steep for a minimum of two weeks, that would probably suffice.
@vshakir6223 жыл бұрын
The time needed for the process is why bitters are so very expensive to buy in stores. Unfortunately, doing it the right way - as Magical Hoof has done so beautifully here - takes lots of time. One will just have to increase the amount of the supply and keep making more as needed. When we make our own tinctures, etc. at the bar, we make sure that we have a certain amount brewing at all times. Cheers!
