Hi all
Today we showing you how we make a dhal from beans. When my parents and parents in law used to buy dried beans, the quality was often poor with lots of broken seeds. We used these broken seeds by making it into a dhal, first roasting the beans so that the peel can be taking off and then boiling it into a dhal and braising like we would with pea dhal.
To accompany this beans dhal we made a simple green pepper chutney that is a good way to cook up extra green pepper or yellow pepper you may have.
Ingredients
2 cups broad beans (soak in hot water for 3 hours)
1 tsp hurdee (tumeric) powder
1 tsp pure chillie powder
1 tbs margarine
1 level tbs rough salt
2 tomatoes, roughly diced
6 cloves garlic, roughly sliced
For pepper chutney
1/2 cup oil
1 onion, grated
1 can (400g) peeled and diced tomatoes
1 large green pepper sliced
2 green chillies
2 cloves garlic roughly chopped
a few curry leaves
1 heaped tbs mixed masala
1 tsp hurdee (tumeric) powder
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp rough salt - adjust to taste
dhania and spring onion to garnish
for braising the beans dhal
1/3 cup oil
1 med onion, sliced
2 red chillies
2 green chillies
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp whole jeera
curry leaves
dhania and spring onions to garnish
Serve with brown roti - I will upload the video soon.
