That was awesome! When I was brand new to recording, just a young pup, I remember being too timid to tell the engineer that I couldn't hear myself at all, so I just played what I thought would work. When the song finished, everyone said, "Great! On to the next track." I replied, "Wait! Can I hear it first?" "Of course", the engineer replied. Only after hearing it back and being relieved that it actually sounded right did I tell them that I couldn't hear myself during the recording. The engineer looked at the board and realized that he had my channel muted in the headphones. He felt awful, but the band said, "Whatever...it worked!" By the way, I agree with one of the other comments that this is one of the huge benefits of music theory. You know what will work before you play it.

This is why you need basic music theory kids
@HogFlamboli6 жыл бұрын
@@lymphhh Dude, I'm joking. If you want a practical use of music theory, you could also use it to help you figure out where you might want a riff to go instead of just trying to hack it out for an hour. You can see if staying in the same key or switching to a completely different one or saying fuck a key I'm gonna go chromatically here. Another practical use is explaining the key to a band member so they can join in (of course this only works if they know basic music theory too). Music theory, unlike what music teachers like to push, is a way of communicating and labeling what you're playing, not a parameter of how to play, or an excuse to act like an elitist.

I believe it started with him recording his own music. When he records alone, he takes the keyboard to the various areas, (drum, guitar, bass, etc.) and uses them to run the whole process. It became something that people pointed out, and it's sort of turned into a joke now, but I believe this is the original purpose.

Man Rob, so the first half of the video, I'm sorta following along and can envision things. And then you start the vocals, and I forgot what the buildups and chorus sounded like, and you seemed to do the same. I was almost certain by about 3/4 of the way through that it was going to be a bit of a mess. But I have to say, you're a musical genius, and it was a real bonafide song by the end. I'm extraordinarily impressed man, stellar work!
