Well done girls! I've been sewing since before I was old enough for school, that's nearly 50yrs. It's so good to see younger people learning to sew, it brings so much joy to use both creative & problem-solving skills in 1 project . Imho everybody should still learn at least simple sewing at while at school, it's a basic life skill just like boiling an egg or changing a tyre.

Glad you found a great machine that handles multiple layers of denim. Great job. I didn't really find a passion for sewing (in spite of learning in Junior high) until I was a new grandmother. I remember making an appliqued quilt and coverall set for my nephew and my mother was blown away by the professional way it looked. When you WANT to do something as opposed to being forced to do it, there is much more pride in your work. Your family is so multi-talented. That is so important that you folks are learning and retaining knowledge that is lost on most young folks. Your family did an amazing job with each of you. Very impressed.

Excellent job! The joy of sewing! I love that you made your own pattern from a favorite article of clothing! I started sewing fifty years ago (for my Barbie) and quickly moved onto making most of my own clothes during middle and high school. I did take home economics classes and learned some great tricks. Pressing is important and not the same as ironing, keeping my thread under 18” when hand sewing helps keep it from knotting and always making sure I keep the pattern running along the grain line so the fabric hangs straight. Reader’s Digest Complete Guide To Sewing is a great reference book if you can find it. If/when I run across other reference books I’ll pass on the names...still sorting out my sewing/drafting room after moving. I like to think of sewing as a soft form of building, it helps you see how things go together (what odd shapes we sometime use to make things like pants ) and it can be incredibly satisfying to come up with your own ideas. I like adding inseam pockets to dresses (even store bought) because I think we should have pockets for all clothing...maybe not swimsuits or underwear. 😄 I just started teaching my six year old granddaughter how to sew last summer and I hear her three year old sister has been doing a lot with toilet paper and tape. Have fun!

Shae, here's a sewing tip. Turn your straight pins horizontally in your fabric (you have them vertical and the sewing machine foot will get hung up). By having them horizontal you can easily sew across the pins. You did an outstanding job on your jeans.
@suesmith50334 жыл бұрын
If you sew across the pins you risk breaking a needle. With newer machines you can even mess up the timing. (Ask me how I know this)! I agree pin horizontally but pull the pins as you get to them. Your jeans look amazing!

YOU ARE SO AMAZING!! My mother taught me to sew with a needle and thread when I was so tiny. I was around 3. I was so ahead of my time you never know that now at 55. I'll leave out the reasons why but I know it's still in there. She let me start using the Machine by 4. Totally against my father's will but he wasn't worried about me he was worried about the machine good memories. The point is is if she would have old sheets she would hand them right to me because I would find a way to dye them which sometimes would die a lot of other things that weren't intended to be dyed LOL. But she never stopped me from doing what I wanted to do. So I would come out in these evening gowns or just in these wild things that should say you can't wear that to school. I understood. The point is is I stopped. I never learned to put a zipper in although my mother was top-notch! I've tried to learn by watching videos and it just didn't work I need a formal class with someone to come over and help me or just a person who has a lot of patience and I don't have a friend like yours nor can I find one. Right now I have a brand new very sufficient sewing machine still in the box in the back of my storage somewhere. I'm so proud of you and I'm just still amazed at your family and what you have accomplished and I'm jealous but in a good way I guess the word would be envious. I always wanted to have a family of kids that were aging out of adoption that wanted to live that way but the state is so terrified even though I know the real story about most foster kids because I went to school that. Dealt with these children I've got medical mental everything Health when it comes to children and adults but I also left that way back in the past because it was painful. But I just want to put my application in as a mom and find the kids that went to go live out and build our world like you guys have. And hopefully an adulterer to that would also enjoy it that has skills like sewing and whatever it may be. Really I just wanted to tell you that you're awesome. But I'm sick and I've been in the house since November other than about four times I didn't even know that this season has had changed until a couple weeks ago and it made me cry. I love the fact that you're you. And I'm so behind on your guys videos you literally were building your brother's house with the sandbags I'm putting in the stairs and he had finally got the roof on so he can look at the stars. And I saw one or two videos after that and then I lost you guys completely and now hopefully I found you guys for good but every time I find you I'm unsubscribed KZbin has lost its mind! so many of my favorite people I'm unsubscribed to and I don't understand and even when I hit the button a couple minutes later I can check it I'm unsubscribed again. I need to move I'm living in a living room in the middle of the city and I can't Gardens because my neighbor sprays my plants. Before that I had so much food in a 15 by 15 area you know how much you can do in a spot like that and it's a pretty medium climate it's Washington State and so we get you know 75 degree days for quite a few months so it being Undercover part way but still getting late I had a lot of food we could not go to the grocery store for a lot of things in fact I had a little pair of scissors that I could reach over and cut things while we were eating to add more or to add flavor. I knew I'd get on this big long tangent. I should have just told you you rocked and took my finger away from the phone.🌬🕯🐾👣🌱🐸🖤🥦
