Finding something I’ve put in a “safe place” after 30 minutes of hunting would be a miracle in my house! For years I’ve been saying I’m going to label one of the kitchen cabinets with a sign saying “safe place” so I’ll always know where to look. This might be the year that I make that sign! Thanks again for a lovely video!

It was so nice watching you make the calendula salve. I have been making the oil for quite a few years now. My two daughters who are in their 50s have joined me in this lovely summer ritual. I always watch for a full moon or two. I put the jar out for the night. I like to think it gives the oil a little bit of magic. It's a gift of love when you put so much of yourself into making things. Every week we witnessed how much love you share.

Kate, not only do you teach us new skills, but you are also a student of life. You are always learning new things also - your basket is just beautiful. The photography of you in the flower garden was stunning and the funny clipping of the elderberries with you and Anna made me laugh. What fun and such beautiful gifts for your family all made with love. Thank you.

For future reference-a garden rake works really well to pull down the branches of the elderberry bush so you can reach them and doesn’t damage the bush. As a child we would walk the railroad tracks where lots of elderberry bushes grew and we’d pick as many as we could. Then spend days cleaning the berries off the stems. My mom would make elderberry jelly and elderberry pie. The railroad tracks are gone and so are the elderberries now. I’ve planted some bushes on our farm and hope to get some berries.

I enjoyed watching this video while knitting a brioche hat for my older daughter, sitting on my couch but imagining it was your lime green one. It is a beautiful sunny, yet crispy day in Southern Ontario, where I live. The gold and orange calendulas reminded me of the lovely summer we had this year. I feel so blessed and happy today, and am so glad I found your channel awhile back. Your videos always make me smile. Sending love to you and all your family members, Kate!

Kate this was great how lucky your family and friends will be to get those gifts. My grandparents grew Orange and yellow Marigolds that where planted every year up each side of the path to the front door my gran said when it was a dull day she always had sunshine when she looked out the window and I grow loads each year in my cottage garden to remember them. Really enjoyed this thank you xx

You brought back a memory of collecting wild elderberries with my late eldest brother when I was about 8 or 9. He took me along as I was small enough to climb the trees and light enough to get on the top bendy branches. Health and safety not really a buzz phrase in the 70s! He made wine not cordial, so there wasn’t even a reward for me ☹️. Happy times ☺️

What a pretty Calendula patch! I've made Calendula salve, and it's great for winter dry hands. I have also made elderberry syrup when I can get my hands on some berries. I add cinnamon and cloves to it and seal it in jars to use in the winter. My husband doesn't like the smell of it cooking and calls it witch's brew. I believe I will add Calendula and elderberry to my garden. Thanks Kate!
