*Idea*: Make a resin cast again, but fill it with gallium (a metal with an extremely low melting point, so low that you own body heat is enough to liquefy it). So when you put it on, your body heat will warm the gallium and make it flow around inside the ring. Maybe you could even use different dyes and gems mixed into it. This would be quite expensive however, as pure gallium can't be mined, and must be isolated in a lab.
@arbrog7 жыл бұрын
Fosasolah would this actually work with the resin? Resin has a very low heat conductivity meaning would effectively insulate the Galium from your body heat? I suppose it wouldn't take too long to warm the whole ring to 85 deg(melting point of gallium). It would be interesting to make the inlay of one of the metal rings gallium and then seal over top with resin/sealant but I imagine that would be incredibly difficult to get the gallium to fill the inlay rather then just putting little chunks.
@TheMasterCheese7 жыл бұрын
arbrog I don't know much about the physical properties of resin, but I'll take your word for it. I suppose making an inlay would work, but you would have to insert the gallium while it is in liquid form to completely fill it, which would be really difficult. Maybe insert a temporary filler on half the ring, apply the outside mold, then remove the filler (something that dissolves in water or chemicals easily.) That would give you a hollow to inject the gallium into without it spilling out. Then simply do the same with the other side. Gallium is also very reactive, which is why it's never found naturally, so you would have to find a way to keep it isolated from the metal on the ring and the outside air. There are many other things to take in to account I'm sure, but it seems achievable to me.
@arbrog7 жыл бұрын
I forgot how reactive it is. Yeah I would have to look up if it reacts with tungsten or titanium(I'm lazy so I probably won't). It probably doesn't react with ceramic so those are fine. You could probably pull of a ring of some kind with gallium in it quite a few ways but you're right some of them would be difficult to pull off.
@TheMasterCheese7 жыл бұрын
arbrog According to Wikipedia, Gallium at room temperature forms a protective oxide layer, so it is unlikely to react to anything in air or water at room temperature. As for metals, It didn't give any specific metals that it was particularly reactive to. Instead it seemed that most of the reactions involved sulfur and alkali metals, and it doesn't seem that it is able to react to a single metal without some other element involved. I assume that titanium would be fine as long as the necessary elements for a reaction aren't present. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gallium

I really love watching these old videos there's one in particular that I just saw a couple nights ago work it even hear the sound of the lathe machine the grinding and all that I knew at this so all your newer videos you can't hear all that stuff so when I'm using my leaf machine I kind of cringe sometimes because of the sounds but that video I just watched it made me rethink and realize that it's okay LOL keep up the great work

I have a question and possible suggestion. Have you ever heard of Stuart Semple? He's a UK artist who came up with some of fhe brightest pigmented powder paints I've ever seen(does The Pinkest Pink sound familiar to you). I know right now you're focused on doing things faster and more affordable, but I think you should check out his powders to see how well they work in your projects since you're currently experimenting. It would really cool to buy a ring from you with his ultra florescent green or phaze shifting purple and pink powders.

Love your work (as always) my idea would be a more liquid magma type ring with a deep red/orange glow and maybe a bit of obsidian on the inlay to make it more unique. I don't know much about ring-making or minerals so I understand if obsidian isn't good to work with, I just think it'd be a nice change from all your other blue/green rings and gain a bigger variety. I am aware that on your website you can change the glow of most rings but I'm requesting that you make one that is specifically red/orange that can make future customers have more options. If you ever read this and feel inspired please let me know so I can give you more suggestions in the future.

The main issue behind the opal part not working as intended is because the flashes of colors that are associated with opal are actually caused by it's physical internal structure diffracting light. So by crushing it up you're breaking that structure and removing a large majority of the opalescence from it. I think a better way to go about it if you want those small parts of opal in the ring is to keep them at about the same size they were before crushing them. Hope this helps!

How about a more greenish glowing ring with little tungsten bits or aluminum (Don't know the one you used in this video) and then a bit bigger blue gems inside. Silver, Blue and Green just sounds like a really dope color combination ! Also, how about testing more patterns of damascus ? You can create a lot of patterns with various forging ways. I don't know how much room you have for testing since it all costs a lot but these are just my ideas ;)

You need to use a deeper purple amethyst & the opal doesn't look like it has any "Fire" to it. Or even the milky opal with pinks, purples & such would have been a great choice. There are So many semi-precious gemstones you could use. Even Smoky Topaz is gorgeous. I know, my Grandpa cut a smoky topaz in an Eagle Eye cut for a gem competition.

Yo I know there is a very high chance you might not see this, but I have an idea for your website, can you make it to where we can customize the rings? Like actually customize the looks with the materials that it can be made out of, so we can see what we are getting before we buy, I would greatly appreciate it if you did this. Also if you do see this, can you comment something? It doesnt matter what you comment I just want to know you saw this.

Instead of amethyst... use purple Charoite. It's not as translucent as amethyst but has that beautiful purple colour that WOULD stand out (when crushed) in the resin. And lapis lazuli would be beautiful too. And Labradorite. And moonstone! Those ones have a beautiful sheen to them when the sun hits them. Just don't crush them to dust, or you'd not have that property.
