The progression from the dirt to the sky is very symbolic. Frog Eye dances on the ground, taking wisdom from the earth through his amphibian vision (a frog is symbolic of both the land AND water), while also giving back to it through his creating of dirt, connecting man to the cycle of life and creation itself. Just above him, though, is the fallen man. Bird Eye, though physically higher, lacks the spiritual and human connection of Frog Eye, feeling an absence within him that must be compensated for by asserting pointless authority over those he deems lesser. Height, then, we see both as a source of power (social status), yet it removes us from TRUE power (dirt and the cycle (or dance) of life). This emptiness is so intense that Bird Eye must fill it further through appeals to a God of sorts, a man-made deity whom he and others adore so profoundly it, like the religious poetry of John Donne, borders on the erotic. Finally, we have Fancy. The Alpha and Omega. Creator of wealth, or destroyer of worlds? Perhaps he is neither. For despite Bird Eye's veneration, despite his auspicious wealth, and extreme elevation, and first class lounge, he is but a man. His tired eyes and fading hairline belie the passage of time, both in the micro and macro. He is bound to the air, knowing he cannot descend for if he does, he will be forced to confront that which he has created. The confrontation of the self, repeated three times.
