Making Chawanmushi in the Electric Lunch Box!

I successfully made chawanmushi in an electric lunch box! When we go to restaurants we are served in such tiny cups and it always leaves us wanting a second serving. Here I made a HUGE bowl, super satisfying!
Ingredients A:
2 Eggs
350ml Dashi or Chicken Stock
1 Teaspoon Light Soy Sauce (Optional)
Ingredients B:
2 Fish Cake/Crab Sticks
2 Large Scallops
5 Small Shitake Mushrooms
Be sure to heat up the electric lunch box first! Cover the egg mixture with a lid to prevent condensation from dripping onto the egg and spoiling the appearance.

How much water you put inside the electic lunch box?

3/4 cup of water in the cup that came with the lunch box should be sufficient for 20 minutes of steaming

@@mulberrysera thanks..for the first time you used that,how much water you put inside?i've just put 80ml inside the body.it's that ok? And can we open the cover when we cook?or we just wait till indicator lamp turn off?

@@tomariku2583 I used an estimated amount of water as i relied on a timer (more accurate this way). The cover is meant to prevent condensation from dripping into the bowl, ruining the smooth surface of the egg. It can be removed if you don't want to use it.. On the indicator lamp, it switching off by itself is actually a built in safety feature so that the lunchbox does not overheat and meltdown. Would suggest that you don't rely on this "auto shutoff" feature too much...

Is it safe to cover it with the plastic lid?

To me, since the lid never touched the food and the cooking time is not long, its fine...? The outer body of the ELB is plastic too. Cooking in an ELB should not replace proper stove top cooking.

I am not quite sure about this because I have a LifePro Electric Pot and there was a warning sign on the plastic lid "Please open the lid before cooking." Not sure what it meant by 'open'. So I didn't dare to cook with the lid on. Anyway, thanks very much for sharing. Your videos gave me some ideas on what to cook using the electric pot.

@@charity1239 in my video i did not press the lid down fully. I believe that the instructions meant that pressure sometimes build up inside the pot during the cooking process and having the lid firmly on can lead to the food "exploding"

Why do you need to sieve the egg?

It helps to remove parts of the egg that isn't smooth so that what I get is a smooth egg mixture.
