You need to bolt the wheel on to the drive wheel of a car on jacks and let the car spin the wheel why you hold the sandpaper on the spinning wheel. Will save a lot to time and give you a more even, better polish.

There's reasons why there isn't any wheels with such lips in narrow wheels like that. For example the sketchiness, like I don't think you realize how huge the forces applied on a wheel are, and because the mounting point is all the way to the edge of the wheel, it's even worse, it applies a lever effect. Or another reason, you will need huge fender "holes" wheels that poke so much will hit the frame when turning a way, and will hit the bumper the other way...
@davidwilson91785 жыл бұрын
IMNOTA yeah I would say at least mount the face inside to give it a chance to survive the first pothole.
@imnota5 жыл бұрын
@@davidwilson9178 Yeah, but I'm not sure it would sit flush, seems like it can only go in the back... I think only the front of the face has this flat surface to meet with the barrel's mounting surface, and the rear probably has some reinforcements in the casting. Anyways, we'll see, I guess I've seen sketchier stuff doing great without breaking so let's hope nothing happens.

In all honesty you probably should hit them with any brand of regular fine cut rubbing compound polish as it's very aggressive and its exactly what you need to really get out the sanding Mark's you created when sanding then hit them after that with the mothers and you will have a way way better finish

Want deeper shine just do 1500 and 2000 then rebuff....dont use creams...use the green polish compound bar... Pro tip 🤪
@Arlenbuilt5 жыл бұрын
untouchable, light after darkness Those bar compounds on work with high speed buffing. They need quite a bit of heat to melt that polish down for it to work right. Creams are fine for what he’s doing, though I completely agree with sanding through the finer steps for a deeper shine.

Whenever I have polished up the wheels I have always painted and lacquered them to stop them corroding. So many wheel manufactures have wheels with lacquer peeling Iv had to do it many times.At the time I could not find a lacquer that would stick properly , straight on aluminium but I think these days there are products out there which work. Was wondering if you are going to paint the rims or perhaps you could just wax them regularly to protect them and to stop them corroding.
@upnorthviking8235 жыл бұрын
There are no clearcoat that will bond passed 800 grid.this is why they all peel. When u get to 2000 you buff and SEAL. No wax on polished alloy.it cuts the shine
@boastyy5 жыл бұрын
Good to hear . Have seen ceramic clear coatings which claim to be able to protect it but I have also seen good and bad reviews on them. Guess just a sealer it is .thanks man

HB TESTING if itll work first then test if the wheel even functions
@elliotbentley9575 жыл бұрын
Next time u do something like this dont bother with a strip wheel, instead clean it thoroughly, then block sand in one direction starting with 80 grit, then 120, then 180, then 220 and so on all the way up to 3000 or 5000 grit, each higher grit removes the scratches left by the previous grit which becomes VERY easy to polish once you have reached 3000 or 5000!
@upnorthviking8235 жыл бұрын
80 grid is wayyy to rufff for a machined surface...also 3000 is not needed...stop at 2000...5000???LOLLLL u can start at 180 on a machined surface its plenty ruff even 220
@elliotbentley9575 жыл бұрын
we do this up to 5000 in autobody, if you want a mirror shine with no scratches then working all the way up through the sandpapers before buffing gives you the best finish. And starting at 80 on bare metal guarantees you remove all the deep marks from the surface so you dont have to go back and redo anything
@kampfspetzle5 жыл бұрын

I personally would of never stared sanding with the 400 and never started sanding dry to begin with I would of started with maybe 800 wet sanding then 1000 then 1500 and would of used regular fine cut polishing rubbing compound with the big sheep skin looking polishing wheel you used after I got a nice shine then would of gone for a final pass with a foam pad with regular mothers aluminum polish you would have gotten a better mirror finish had you done something like this i know because I have done this repeatedly to repair wheels worse then what you started out with and have had mirror new finishes at the very end over and over just my advice for you to get them looking even better yours look decent but need further sanding with 1500 to 2000 grit to polish out better from what I can clearly see but still great attempt takes time figure it out
