This is one of their hardest arrangements according to them. They've talked about all the time signatures both in the behind the scenes video and on stage. It's so FUN! You can tell they love it!

I watched the behind the scenes earlier (and filmed myself reacting to it/discussing it). I don't publish my behind the scenes videos publicly on KZbin (they're one of my Patreon perks) - but I may include that one in the description of this video at a later date for anyone to see, or make note of it in my upcoming PTX videos also for anyone to see, as anyone with the link can view it. We'll see!

Once again you've shown the depth of a Pentatonix performance. There is much to distract from the technical aspects of the their individual parts, from the scene changes to facial expressions and motions. This was a fun one and thanks to your analysis, a technical wonder. Looking so forward to your PTX Christmas reactions. 😊

So happy you reacted to this. It's one of my favourites, too. They've totally captured the creepy feel, love the frenetic pace, Mitch as Joker and a cackling witch, and the wonderful blend of Hallowe'en and Christmas themes... chaotic fun! Great reaction, as always.

I love the creativity in this video. Tim Burton and Pentatonix - the perfect pairing. I love when they have the opportunity to flex their acting chops! They have so much fun with it! Especially Mitch and Kirstie. I’m glad you didn’t wait till Christmas to react to this masterpiece. They take this complex and complicated piece and turn it on its head. Thank you for explaining and showing how they managed to accomplish their special brand of magic!

Wow PTX totally smashed it indeed (saying musically, not as the monsters smashed those poor animals and objects to create their Christmas presents in the movie👀). Always appreciate the analysis and reaction - I had no idea there are apparently as many key/time signature changes in the song as you talked about! The slow percussion beat in PTX's first Halloween segment reminds me a lot of the tympany drum beat you mentioned from the original movie song, and it even seems like Kevin is mimicking a tympany sound as well.

Enjoyed this immensely. Here's the thing, I am a haute music appreciator, reacting from instinct, gut, and heart. Your combination of technical and musical "pragmatics" has so enhanced how I listen. You seem to know how to balance joyful naivete and sophistication in equal measure. I am learning to be comfortable with that. Thank you, Sir.

I really enjoyed every minute of this analysis. The detail you were able to illustrate by comparing the original to the PTX version was very helpful in explaining the choices they made to convert the song into acapella. I was also able to easily follow the way you charted the music. The headers were a good clue on that section. I love this little short song. It’s visually fun as they switch from Halloween to Christmas. It’s easy to listen to multiple times because the arrangement is dynamic. Thanks for always pointing out Kevin and Matt. As one of the Sing Off judges used to say, “the bass and percussion are the meat and potatoes of PTX.” They always anchor the sound in most performances. Always glad for a Sir Hairless PTX video. Happy Halloween 🎃

This one is a lot of fun, isn't it!! There's a nice behind the scenes from when they shot the video, and they do talk a bit about the arranging process in that, too. I think you'd really enjoy watching it on your own time. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZmS6q518ir-aoa8 They did perform it live during their 2018 and 2019 Christmas tours, and there are a couple fan-shot videos from that, as well a video of them performing it as part of their TV special in December, 2018 "A Not So Silent Night". Those are a fun watch, too! There's also a fun video on the React channel "Pentatonix Reacts to Pentatonix Christmas Songs Through the Years" that includes a short clip of them watching this video back and commenting on both the video and the arrangement, as well as their votes about whether the movie is a Halloween movie or a Christmas movie. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bJ_VZXyGntWVn5Y

🎄🎄🦹🎄🎄 .. good day Sir Hairless. You know what ? I really enjoy when you listen and break down Pentatonix songs. I find myself fascinated with how they pass off the song back and forth with such ease. I get lost in the chord changes , but when you listen , you hear them all. I like every single voice in this group. I am beyond excited to start listening , and singing Christmas Carol's and originals by Pentatonix. I think you could talk about each and every Pentatonix song for a few or eleven hours. ☺️ Doesn't bother me.. keep them coming Coach ! 🎄🎄🎀🎄🎄

I am very happy you explained "diagetically" just as I was reaching for my phone. The flashing disco lights of the filter leave me to listen along with you which was a lot of fun with this song. I hadn't seen it in quite a while. Thanks, as always.
@SirHairless2 ай бұрын
Sorry about the filter :( Unfortunately the video is blocked completely if the image is clear enough to be detected, and it really takes some heavy filtering to get around that. The video is still copyrighted and blocked in Russia, but that's better than no one being able to see it I could just cover the image completely, but this is the best I could do where you can still sort of make out the video Some of these PTX videos can be very strict with copyright 😪 But you can view them as an Egg White over on my Patreon - perhaps you'd consider joining the Patreon, or switching from KZbin to Patreon as you can access all my unfiltered videos there (which would actually be cheaper for you; the downside is you'd lose the KZbin membership badge)
@joyrobinson45852 ай бұрын
@@SirHairless no need to apologise regarding the filter. I understand the need for them at times, frustrating as they can be. The disco lights were certainly effective at blocking this video! I feel sorry for the Russians though. I always say thank you but I hope you know why. You are really good at this:)

Hi Doll! What a fun reaction! I loved how detailed your breakdown was. The only problem, now I am jones-ing for PTX Christmas. I apologize in advance for the length of this comment, but by now you know I am pretty wordy. I have mentioned this before, but now I am including the links. Oh Holy Night: the nine year old version with Avi; kzbin.info/www/bejne/g6HXn4KAqK6fr6csi=sb6QTqscX-C06bWh and the 10 month old version with Matt; kzbin.info/www/bejne/iJatcohoor2gbtksi=RlzrW-WuU6ytKhSg. This is a great comparison in showing just how much the group has grown. If you have to choose one, please choose the Matt version. That being said, HELP! When Matt takes lead, he sings the word divine with a tenuto or fermata. I believe it is Scott that is ending that note, not Matt. I believe I hear Scott come in a couple beats after Matt starts and Scott is the one that finishes it off with the great reverb and his character exhale. (Another example of Scott doing this is in "Kiss From A Rose" where Scott ends the piece with the same style/tone and reverb. You can hear his exhale in both.) I have asked many people and everyone thinks it is Matt because the camera is on Matt - but Matt stops singing, you can see him stop on the video. Matt's divine is more rounded where Scott brings a more pop tone to it. Can you please use your fabulous ears and tell me who ends that fermata? I think you are one of the very few reactors that can really hone in on each individuals tone and may be the only one that can answer this for me. Thank you! Now I am going to try to figure out how to buy you some hot chocolate for the use of your ears. Stay healthy my friend!
