I can certainly see why Come Along would be recommended to you as a lighter, more fun piece by Pentatonix - I've always thought that (to paraphrase Mitch) I really don't understand the lyrics, but it looks like PTX has a lot of fun singing it! And yes, this has a pretty good Mitch-slap in it - unlike a lot of songs, the melody really doesn't "foreshadow" that note from Mitch, it pretty much just seems to come from nowhere! There are at least 3 literary references in the lyrics - "heffalump", from Winnie the Pooh, "borogroves" and "slithy toves" from Jabberwocky, and "shut you ears when sirens sing" from The Odyssey. I always feel like there may be more that I'm not getting, but no one so far has come up with more than these. Boy, you weren't kidding when you talked about Matt's part in the final section jumping all over the place - until i saw your transcription, I had no idea he made that many LARGE jumps between notes, and did it a couple of times!

Can I just say, that really was the perfect video filter for that song! :D Thank you once again for a brilliant, insightful analysis. If you're looking for a calm song, I highly recommend My Heart With You (the official video is a live recording!) or The Prayer - both from the Matt era. I was also wondering if you'd consider reacting to songs that don't have a music video? There are some real gems from both the Avi and Matt era that hardly get any attention (e.g. Love You Long Time, Somewhere Over The Rainbow, Rosegold, I Saw Three Ships, When You Wish Upon A Star, Petals, Side).

@sirhairless, I totally agree. Two of my favorite Christmas songs of theirs get very little attention. They both remind me of Carol of the Bells in different ways. The first is "O Come, O Come Emmanuel," which I believe is on their first Christmas album. With your love of Renaissance music, I know you would love the second: "Coventry Carol." Both are on a You Tube channel called Yule Log Videos (which has all the music on PTX's Christmas albums). In a completely different genre, their recording of "River" (the Joni Mitchell song) is exquisite. You'll find it there too. links: O Come, O Come Emmanuel: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iIXWdHZmndx_a8k "Coventry Carol: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mJWoZKJ8m7KpbKc "River": kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3qvoZ-tjZumrtE And one more I just found (and it's not a Christmas song). "Invincible." This is a collab with two famous Indian singers that I had never heard of: Shreya Ghoshal, who evidently sings more than 20 languages, and . Link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eGHXaZ-Crt5mnMk. This one would gain you a whole viewership (and now I want to hear more of her work). Ok, their collab on Silent Night with the King's Singers is also extraordinary I thought their earlier Silent Night (the one you reviewed) was the best, but this one may be even better. I love that you said "I'm not sure about happy, but it's definitely fun, definitely upbeat." Very true! It SOUNDS happy, but the lyrics are (to take your phrase out of context), "quite unsettling." I can't decide if PTX are playing friends who want to rescue us from "greed, anger, and boredom," or whether they are sirens luring us to disaster. I also liked your description of Matt's solo as "cartoon-villainy" Now THAT is something that had never occurred to me, but I"ll be hearing it completely differently from now on. Now, even if I had disagreed with all your comments, you would have won me over, with all my heart, with your references to "Carol of the Bells," even including a clip. That was the very first PTX song I ever heard and it still makes me shudder in ecstasy every time I hear it. I've written more than I intended, so just one more thing: You say you'd love to sing this, that it sounds so much fun to sing. True--but those slow trills--you said "flutter"--are practically impossible for ordinary people to sing! (Not that you're an ordinary singer!) And then to do them in perfect synchrony--wow. Oh, and as far as I know, Kevin and Matt have no tattoos--for primarily religious reasons, I believe, though neither of them is judgy about it.

There is another reactor who had an interesting take on this song. She said that many of the phrases in the video come from faery mythology, and she said that it's not wise to not take them seriously. That really made an impression on me, as she interpreted some of the lyrics in "faery speak".

That was an odyssey. I got snippets of dark Disney, of baroque, of madrigal, of '80s electronica. Lyrics? Beware the jabberwock, my son. Understand the necessity of filters for copyright; this one made me instantly seasick, so I had to look at Sir rather than the video. Cheeky tactic. And your deft, nimble transcription of key bits. Is that normal, you doing that with apparent ease? Very enjoyable as always. 💐

I can see this is going to be one of my favourite of your PTX reactions. I've already listened to it five times! I love it when you get very enthusiastic about a piece and do your transcripts so I can see the breakdowns of the arrangements. I love this one. It's such a fun, but also weird and ethereal take on the song. Cosmo Sheldrake absolutely loves this cover and it stimulated a huge amount of exposure for his version. It's so catchy and even though the video is so simple - they're just sitting in front of a screen with brightly coloured clothes on - it's still somehow extremely effective. I love the big, epic VoicePlay productions with costumes and sets etc, but sometimes with PTX arrangements I feel like that would be too much of a good thing and would detract slightly from their incredible arrangements. For more drama, though, you should watch their versions of 'My favourite things' which is a gothic/Steampunk dark Christmas version. Also, if you like 'the nightmare before Christmas' they do a very theatrical, clever version of 'making Christmas' with costumes etc. they are both really engaging. By the way, you were spot on with your memory of the heffalump from Winnie the Pooh - that is what he was referring to. There are also some Alice in Wonderland references and other fantasy books in there. It made me smile when you said that you thought people were only recommending songs with Mitch slaps in them! To be fair, there are a lot of PTX songs with those in! They're often the pentaholics' favourites too! 😊 I wonder if you are going to finally do Hallelujah as your slow, moving one. That is often people's first Mitch slap moment - but you'll see it's not one insanely high note. Their video of that one is their most watched video of all time - over 700 MILLION views! Their cover of the Sound of Silence is also fantastic. Looking forward as always to the next one. Thank you!

So much fun. Love your reactions. Was just going back to some of your older ones and realized you haven't done Hallelujah. Unless I missed it or you didn't react because you have heard them do it before you HAVE to do Hallelujah. It's their most epic video.

I just love your analysis videos! You have a gift for music! I can't comprehend how you hear all the notes, much less name them and categorize them. Amazing to me. Thank you!

I know your Pentatonix list is huge!! And I don’t want to add to it, but wanted to check if “My Favorite Things” is on it? Their take on it is awesome in my opinion. It’s definitely different from the original. (I meant to comment this when you reacted to Forestella’s version.) It’s one of their more in “costume” & in “character” videos. But the arrangement is pretty cool. Also, in my years of watching Pentatonix reactor’s reactions I’ve only come across 2 reactions to it. Which has always surprised me. It would fall in the “fun” category!!

Oh yes it's on my list (along with many others of their works) 😊 So not sure when it'll come to the Sir Hairless channel, but it's on the list!

Same SH, same! The ending eases me down with shivers and a tear. I absolutely love the resolved chord at the end..... It makes me happy that you enjoyed this so much. Thank you.

The tattoo queens are the trio. I think Mitch has the most. Kevin doesn’t have any. I’m not sure Matt does either.

At a guess, Matt's earring is probably his only body mod, unless he has a secret tattoo for his wife (and soon, their baby). I can't see Kevin getting ink ever.

I love this video! It's so bouncy & happy! 😊 A perfect song for Alice In Wonderland! Almost a Madrigal style. ❤

This is probably my favorite Pentatonix song!! I enjoyed the quirkiness of this song and how much fun they have in this video!! And each verse has new interesting elements add in!! The final session is definitely a surprise full choir moment, and the final major chord is just so satisfying!!

They did the photo shoot for all of their 2019 tour after this video. All of their merch featured them in these outfits with that background. I work at a concert arena and have one of the huge arena signs of it hanging in my office. It’s almost the size of the whole wall behind my desk.

YEEEEEESSSSSSS! One of my PTX’s favorite. So original, delectable, spooky and fun. I love the arrangement that you explained so well, each passed solo, that repeated suspension, Matt’s marching band like pompous bass, Kevin’s killing beats and snare rolls, that choral heavenly finale. Loved your reaction as well. They always manage to make me feel so happy and now you do too. Thanks. 🤗

You should really look at more of Cosmo Shelldrakes music just for fun. He uses the most out of the box sound sources to make his music. He did a live once where he made music out of ocean sounds
