It makes sense to use nail polish to touch up enamel paint, but I wonder what could be used for the wrinkled finish on those Standard desktop machines of the '40s and '50s. Color matching is SO difficult under any circumstance.

This might be daft idea, but for the textured surface machines, have you tried dabbing the colour on with a small piece of sponge?

Good idea Maybe like coarse Sponge like art supply carry small piece of sea Sponge a bit tore off or cut to shape with. A Small Pair of Scissors

Take your typewriter to a paint shop (the whole machine, not a picture) and they will be able to mix a paint that is 99% accurate.

I loved this idea and went to a local dept store today, bought 2 colours to blend to match my Remington Rand coated colour. Got a preety good match for inder $8AUD. I also got Sally Hanson Matte Finish Top Coat. Worked a treat! Thank you for such a great idea 🤩

My Royal FP has a couple of long scratches from the return lever. I figure if I use the wrong shade it would look worse. So I was thinking about using a contrasting color maybe with some glitter in it and try to create an kentsugi effect.

!'ve got to say, that purple nail polish looks fantastic on you! By the way, I've been on the lookout for an alpine blue color for my 1956 Smith Corona - you know, the classic crinkle "color." Maybe your technique might help. Your videos are always a joy to watch. And speaking of typewriters, you truly are the carriage return that brings me back to the start. ;)

I had a few looks when I took a typewriter into the Dollarstore and tried to match one of the discount nail-polishes. Success! And I found a match to the cream colour of my Brother Charger 11. Okay, I should have just taken off the ribbon cover and brought that into the store, but I didn't think of that. 😄

I like the blank beauty nail polishes the most and really appreciated the aesthetic of you wearing the nail polish right beside the corresponding typewriter. I can only imagine this is something like what women might have done back in the 1950s, matching their nail polish to their typewriter and it looks really good. I think it would be a nice little treat if you tried to match your nail polish to your typewriters in your videos to come but of course that is a lot to hope for.

I have done that in a few videos and have made other videos doing that similar concept. I stopped sharing it on my typewriter instagram because a few had mentioned it wasn't typewriter specific enough. Now I do most of my nail polish adventures on a different instagram

I do know that paint will be a shade darker after drying, and the wrinkle coating is going to be hard to match simply because it plays on light, so the tint will be super hard to match, as it isn't the same as what you see (or photograph) on your machines' surface. You did an amazing job on this video explaining why it may not be the "perfect" solution (but pretty close for practical purposes.) A toothbrush and isopropyl alchohol is what I would use to lift off any hidden ink and grime in the wrinkle coating. Ethyl rubbing alchohol is best for non-painted surfaces for removing ink. I'm not familiar with your channel, as I just searched "custom paint typewriter" to find you. Happy typing!

Crap, too bad this' a year old .. Using a white sheet of paper you can white balance your DSLR with that paper next to the printer, and BAM .. color matched ..
