Hey man, awesome videos! I Just got a wood lathe for Christmas and I want to start make some duck calls. Are they're any must have attachments that you recommend. And I have never used a wood lathe, only huge metal lathes. Thanks for any tips! Keep up the beautiful work!

+Gregory Smirnov Glad you enjoyed it. The dimensions of my calls are particular to mine. A good starting point would be 3 inches for the barrel and 4 inches for the insert. Play with the dimensions to find your own sound. Best of luck.

So a 3/4 would be a bit small? Prolly need to stick with at least a 1 in square

what brand chuck and shaft do you use?

+Michael Compo it is a PSI collet chuck and I use a expanding mandrel.

+David White The two finishes I use are velvit oil or a CA finish. Bands are from Ron Gould and engraving I use a local shop.

What size blank do you start with to make your 5/8 in dowel?

It is a custom ground old parting tool

Bands are 1 1/8” give or take a hair.

What's the purpose of putting the band on em other than for looks

The band helps not let the wood split when the insert is pushed in.

It was originally a lathe from harbor freight but over the years it now has different motor better bearings different tail stock it's a bit of a Frankenstein.
