A small project that brought some color to one of the walls of my room where I keep the “corner woodshop”
@BasedGhoul5 жыл бұрын
Not to be a jerk or anything but your woodworking room doesn't look like a woodworking room you'd get any serious work done. It looks more like a display room with expensive tools and fancy shelves. I'd be terrified to try doing anything in there. I'd always be worried about scarring or blemishing something. No offense but I'd never try constructing or staining anything on your more recent workbench. It looks more like a piece of fine furniture and not a workbench to get work done on it. In any case, nice job on the shelves. I'd definitely do that for a room in my house but not for something such as a woodworking room.

nice shelves adrian! and i like the Japanese style hand plane..how do u like it? is it as sharp and great to use as everyone says it is..whats next on ur to do list? "plug n play" haha!
@AdrianPreda7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Joe! That small block plane I grab it just for play and discover the japanese planes, I am not using it at its max, still need to tune better the sole, the chip breaker, and sharpen the blade to a higher grit (now 3k max), it has a nice feel when planing, and I'm sure that a normal size one, smoothing/jack, will be greater.
@AdrianPreda7 жыл бұрын
Next I will make that homemade router plane seen on this and previous video ;)
@tooljunkie5557 жыл бұрын
Adrian Preda yeah I was thinking about buying the small one also just to get a feel for it I have a couple homemade ones and I like the whole tapping it with the hammer to adjust it Etc.. I look forward to seeing the upcoming project.. oh and I love that little router plane.bet it comes in handy when needed I need to get one
@AdrianPreda7 жыл бұрын
Is a nice experience with these japanese planes. I was a little concern that the tunnig will be difficult, that's why I took the little block initially, but for "full" japanese planing :) a normal size one would be more awesome. Also, I think I remember from your shop tour you have a Veritas honing guide. With a little effort you can match the blade angle and sharp them with this guide.

why all these primitive hand tools rather than just a router and power planer,table saw, miter saw ect. ? you spend ten times the amount of time to do something with hand tools.making something more difficult and time consuming does not equate to "better"

What hardware did you use to mount the shelf?
@jessicag6302 жыл бұрын
7:10 That's probably drywall anchor. But, drywall anchor is not very strong. Bourbon Moth Woodworking channel used 2 welded iron brackets mounted in the wall for his shelf.

Too much work for such a too simple thing, too elavorated and complicated to make a so simple thing.. it's waste of time to seen it, needs too much pacience to watch till to the end.. there's many more vids doing almost the same without too excessive tecnik.. sorry, didn't like it .. lol
@autonomous445 жыл бұрын
I like them but I don't think the vertical bars lend well to the floating shelf idea. When I think floating shelf, I think JUST the shelf. These look decidedly bracketed because of those details. They are nice, though. They are just regular shelves in my eyes, especially with the mounting style.

Where do you get your wood from? I always have trouble finding wood.
@AdrianPreda7 жыл бұрын
Kind of difficult for me too. Some I get from big box stores, but there are limited and boring types (pine, laminated beech etc, rare times I found mahogany), some from model maker shops (thin 1/8 to 1/4 veneers, walnut, mahogany, pine). There are some lumber yards around me, but I don't have the power tools and space to resawn them.
@SethsProject7 жыл бұрын
I've had some luck finding wood on eBay. You can find some decent deals. You can re saw with your Japanese rip cut saw. That's what I do, but it does get tiring lol.
@AdrianPreda7 жыл бұрын
+Seth's Project I enjoy a lot rip cuting with the ryoba, but small boards only. Preparing a frame for a little cabinet for ex from a big wood plank will take the fun out of it. That cool looking whale shape saws maebiki i think they re called will be fun to use😀
@hotrodhog21707 жыл бұрын
+Seth's Project, Ebay is over priced. I'm not sure where you are but I find a lot of my wood on Craigslist. I am in the southeast Ky region and have great luck finding stuff that guys with band saw mills get rid of cheap. I just took a nice 1 1/2 hour ride and picked up some live edge walnut slabs 2" thick, about 34" long and about 22''-24'' wide for $15.00 each. Awesome deal.
@SethsProject7 жыл бұрын
Hotrod Hog Thanks! I have since found a lot of walnut and maple. I have enough to make my hand tool cabinet and my workbench. eBay is very expensive, and luckily I didn't buy anything from there. It is relatively hard to find people selling lumber here in East Tennessee.

Thanks for the appreciation! Yes, I knew it's not a proper floating, I kind off thought to call it floating because is a shelf that is hinged alone on the wall, and not a cabinet's shelf..
